Default Timing Belt hard to install even with the Tensioner compressed?

What's the deal with this? I've got the tensioner ziptie'd and compressed, got the adjusting bolt loose, and the f*cker still won't get on all the pulleys. I'm following the sequence listed in the helms.

Why are you reusing the autotensioner? Why aren't you using the special tool to hold the autotensioner compressed? I'd imagine the zip ties are stetching some, hence the difficulty. It's not easy to get the timing belt on there, but it's not impossible.

It's apart. Whay not upgrade to the manual tensionr? It's the same PITA but you get a little insurance down the road...

I actually found that if you sh*t can that L bracket and use shorter bolts, the timing belt installation is a breeze. The tensioner pulley hits that bolt when the bracket is in place so you can't get much slack off the belt. With the bracket out of the way, the bolt does not interfere with the pulley, and you have a TON more clearance.

Good news. I took the zip tie off to reposition it, and while compressing the tensioner again (turning the screwdriver etc), it just snapped- no more tension. Needless to say, I'm happy it failed in my hands rather than in the car.

Converting to manual for sure. Importrp seems to have the best price on all the parts needed. $89.
