Default gsr ek... axle problems.. HELPP!!!!

i recently just droped a gsr with a b16 lsd tranny in my 2000 ek. the axles are at a very harsh angle from the trannny on the passenger side. last week i was turning and accelerating and broke the axle, replaced axle that day and still having problems with the axle poping and causing the wheel to jerk when im accelerating.. however it does not do it when im in neutral turning...

are there any special axles i need to be running for this swap???

thanks for your help in advance

Hey Jbur,

What axles are you running? I have a b16 tranny for my EK and I'm running GSR axles... I hope you're not running your d-series axles on it

Best of luck!

gsr axles from autozone.. nothing special.. the passanger axle is \ and when ever i make a left turn it puts alot of stress on that axle.. since its a b16 tranny should i have si axles??

hey jbur, ok so you're running GSR's like me then.. shouldn't be a problem but you are saying the passenger side is waaaay more slanted than the driver side? How low is your car? Dumb question but are you sure you have the right axles for driver/passenger side ?

Maybe the axle is fine but it's possibly something else. Is the engine sitting level in the engine bay? Are any of your control arms bent on that side?

When I did my swap in my ek, I had lots of hell finding the right axles. Everyone says all b series are the same, well that's wrong.

I had a DA halfshaft with the DA axles. This caused vibrations when accelerating and turning. I went through 2 sets of these.

Then, I bought a 99-00 halfshaft. I used 94-01 GSR axles. Same damn problem. So then I bought 99-01 Si Cardone axles from kragen. Now problem fixed.

yeah the engine is level... sits on mounts fine.. etc.. i had a JDM b18c in before and i didnt have the problem.. but my USDM one now is sitting a little more forward..

idk if its because of the b16 tranny or not.

and im not a expert.. but does the ball joint have anything to do with it?? because when my axle broke.. the castle nut on the ball joint fell off about 5 feet before it happined.. maybe my ball joint is bad??

dang the castle nut broke off or fell off? Yea I don't think it would be your ball joint, if it was you'd feel considerable vibrations in your steering wheel even going straight... unless that is the case?

From what zerovandez is saying he swapped in Si axles and it fixed his problem, but I'm running 99 GSR axles with no issues. I was thinking your car might be just slammed to the floor causing excessive strain, but I guess this is not the case either... but it is true you can't just use *any* b-series axles... I'm a bit stuck now as far as help

Free bump for ya, let's get this guy some help ppl!

ohh i think i figured it out.. the gsr is a 95 and i think i got 95 gsr axles and the tranny is a 2000 b16. is that the cause??

so i probly should not drop my car anymore??? cause theres like an inch gap between wheel and fender. so i doubt thats the case.. ive seen alot lower with b18s..

im sure ur using 2000si mounts and other civic mounts. So just go with civic si axles. Get cardone from kragen/checkers. they're 200 new with lifetime warranty.

I'm still convinced Ghettozone screwed up your axle part number because I'm dropped like 2.5" (just under half finger gap) with DC axles with my GSR swap/S80 LSD tranny in 2000 EJ8. No problems, no broken axles, nada.

that could be true... ill take a pic of the axle angle and post it up tommrow.. cause im not convinced my mounts are holding my engine right... would diffrent axles even change the angle of the axle???

Dunno though, still not convinced it's an axle. There shouldn't be any extreme angle unless suspension geometry is extremely screwed up. Even cut springs wouldn't do that to you...

It sounds like your experiencing the same problems I went through. Give these axles a shot man.

I dunno. If you have a Kragen, do there. If not they should be Checkers in your area. Try visiting:

http://www.kragen.com

http://www.cskauto.com

Check it tomorrow. Their site is under maintenance.

I agree... my civic is lowered, not ridiculously but it has about a 2.5-3" clearance so my axles are already slightly stressed, but definitely not at the angle is seems like you are explaining... I was just wondering if maybe you got 2 driver side axles instead of a driver side and a passenger side... can you confirm this?

Also, not to doubt your installation but you mentioned the axle popped out once, did you ensure the tranny side of the axle was pressed completely in, like it was flush with the axle seal side? Did the axle have the ring washer on it? Just checking...

Unless you got axles from a pre 94-00 b-series the axles are all the same (excluding the type-r/ctr)

You're either too low, installed something wrong, or your mounts are fucked up.

If you threw together "b-series" parts on the axles you could have ended up with a da half-shaft or something and thrown a wrench into the mix.
