I have a b series running without the upper plastic timing belt cover. I noticed it made a faint whining noise in higher rpms (not at idle).

ANyone else have this noise with open timing belt?

normal, but as it go bad it will get louder

 

I have a noise from that area also but the tb and the wp are new. Maybe it is the alternator bearing but it seems to be coming from the TB side...almost like a piece of tin is vibrating but I could not find any such thing...pretty annoying but the car runs fine.
