Rebuilding steering rack...
I have a 1990 Crx Dx and I'm rebuilding the rack and pinion. I have it all taken apart down to the pinion. I've removed the 35mm retaining ring, but it's not coming out. I have a feeling it's pressed in with a machine press. Does anyone know?
Can I use the butane torch to put the new one in? If so, would I need to heat the bearing up as well as the rack housing or just the rack housing?

Ya much further now! Actually all done rebuilding the rack and replacing all my front end suspension bushings. Just need to put my rack in and adjust it. My manual isn't very clear on how I should adjust the guide screw though... It say's to tighten until the spring compresses, but does that mean until it's fully, partially, or slightly compressed? And then it say's to back off 40-60 degrees, is this right? I've seen 3 or 4 different attribute's, but none the one I have in my manual. Anybody know for a 90 crx?
its really trial and error. do it as the manual says, tighten it by hand until it bottoms out and then back it off as it says. but really, i guarantee you that youll end up redoing it after the first run. it will affect steering resistance feel. adjust until youre happy. no big deal.
enjoy.

Ok this will be my very last question about this subject. So when I disconnected the inner tie-rods from the outer tie-rods I didn't mark there previous positions.
Should I just guess and make sure that each side is screwed on at the same length? Or is there more to it?

eyball it, test drive then adjust and then go immediately to the alignment shop.
use a straight edge or something to help see the ROUGH angle. but you cannot get any accurate measurements without some real measurement tools like longacre toe plates.
dont even think about driving anywhere else other than the alignment shop.
