Default wtf...zc timing belt!!

ok well i bout some cam gears for my dohc zc...everyone told me the b-series gears work..so i went ahead and bought them. they look exactly like my zc gears same circumference and everything. so they do fit!!

but today we try to install them...everything was goin good till we try putting the belt back on...we lined up the cam holes and the crank...it took awhile but we finally got them on right with the belt. next was to tighten the tensioner. the belt seemed tight...so we put back on everything reall quick tto start it up and see if the timing was good...car started up fine and the timing was straight...but then he says turn it off cuz the belt looks loose..so we look at it but its tight??...so were turning the motor around and the belt starts to come loose at the top of the cam gears....to the point where the gears could easily slip!! we turned it some more and the belt went back tight...but if u keep turning the belt will come loose up top again!!

we cant figure out why it is doing this!! anyone have a similar experience or know how to fix it!!

had to leave my car at work cuz its obvioulsy not drivable..please help!!

if its comming loose from the tensioner than ur tensioner bolt its bad, loosen, pealed or something

if it moves from the gear to the outside like its moving then u forgot to put this little round thing that goes between the belt and the crank pulley,, that holds the belt on position so it doesnt moves out.... its like a bit washer..

seesm liek a problem with the tensioner. i am using the AEm Bseries cam gears on my ZC and have no problem with htem slipping at all. the belt rides right no the edge of the cam gears. the side closest to the motor but has never slipped off. it could be possible that you stripped out the tensioner bolt or just didn't tighten it enough.

with te fact that it gets tight then loose again it could also be possible you didn't take up all the slack in the belt before tightening.

that wats soo wierd the belt is tight everwhere until u turn the motor around some...then it will come loose on top and alil in front...

wat could be wrong with the tensioner?? we took it out and it looked fine...and i think it he put back on right...it only goes on 1 way right...

what belt are you using? The prelude one fit on mine, but the same thing happened to me. My shop teacher fiddled around with the tensioner and it worked great. undo it, and move the tensioner itself as far as you can, then move the tensioner belt as tight as possible. Then, turn it the crack till its as tight as you can get it.
Hope that wasn't confusing, but it worked for my ZC.

I don't know who told you that b-series cam gears work with the ZC, but they were wrong. They do NOT work on a ZC. There is some kind of a lip that needs to be machined off, or else it doesn't fit in line with the path of your timing belt. (i.e. it sticks out too far) I'm sorry that you spent your money on that, and I sincerely hope that you didn't break your engine. Having a belt do that to you will certainly mean you run the risk of bending some valves...

If I remember correctly, HKS makes cam gear specifically for the ZC. They're expensive though...

Good luck!

i have had bseries cam gears on my ZC and have had no problems. i have been running them for over a year and a half. nothign needs to be machined. my belt runs flush with the motor side of the cam gear, no slippage or anything has occured in the time i've had it on so the DO work!

Oh...

Well, I do not have them on my ZC, but when the TOO BBS was still up, there were a couple of guys who tried to run b-series cam gears, and they found that they didn't work quite right unless you machined them down a bit... But hey, if your's work, then cool, I'll defer to your experience... vs. my head "knowledge"...

there is a spring on the tensioner that helps it work correctly. get a little tool with a hook and pulll up on the spring as someone tightens the 14mm bolt. the spring is suppost to do this by itself, but most of them on D-series engies are old and dont work so well. good luck, and make sure all your timing is perfect.

ok i learned alot today..first the tensioner wasnt on correctly. it was hooked onto the lil know on the opposite side of the spring it was just swaying there...so each time the motor turned it in turn would move the tensioner causing the slippage..

also i learned that u dont have to unloosen the tensioner boolt to take off the belt...the push the tensioner towards the rear of the car with a flat screwqdriver and slide the belt on/off.

it turned out that the exhaust cam slipped down a tooth toward the rear of the car...which means it retarded it self....daym the car sounded like a v8 when we turned it on...so i said **** it and just advanced that gear since i now have the option of adjusting them...and it basically put it back to stock...

the i bumped up the intake adv. 3 degrees and it responds better now...ill do sum assdyno tuning later...until i hit the dyno..

also does anyone know where i can get it dyon tuned in orlando???
