Default 2003 Accord traction control light (with brakes)

My friend has a 2003 Accord EX-L 6 speed. About 80 K miles on it. Her traction control light has been coming on (and staying on) when she hits her brakes sometimes. It goes off when turning the car off and on. I’ve read a few things on the net that say it’s the brake light switch (on pedal). Does that sound right?

Thanks!

Sorry for the sad answer but it will need to get a code pulled by a HOnda specialist and then we can try to help diagnose this for you better.

The brake light switch was replaced on my exact car with 40k on it a couple of months ago and it fixed the problem-sounds like the same thing. My TCS light came on randomly and would reset after turning the car off.

Replacing the switch seemed to work! Her TC light has not come on since!

Thanks!

the reason that the light kept coming on is becuase the car thinks that the emergency brake is applied and will therefore disable the ABS which is part of TCS and trips the light on. once the defective switch was replaced, the ecu sees that the e-brake was no longer applied and it allowed for normal operation of the system

ok,, but this was the switch on the brake pedal that was replace. Not the E brake switch. But who knows the way all these things work together..

Thanks!

same principle applies it thinks the brakes are applied when they should not be and system is disabled

so do you recommend changing the switch under the brake pedal first and then if the problem still exist, then replace the switch for the emergency hand brake?

so far all referrences has been to the switch under the pedal and not the hand brake. What you say definitely makes sense to me.

ok, I changed the switch under the brake pedal and it didn't do anything. So now I'm going to change the switch under the emergency hand brake.

Brake pads and fluid has been checked and they are fine. If that doesn't do it, then it's off to the dealer for at least a diagnostic.

There is another thread about this somewhere but my educated guess without any real diagnosis is the fluid level sensor in the brake master cylinder.
