Default Best transmission for my car???

So I have 94 civic sedan. d15 5 speed manual trans, and I was just wondering what would be the best replacement trans for my car??? I heard that si/ex transmissions can fit and are really good. But what kind of performance change would I be seeing??? Thanks for the input.

the Si trans is nice. The EX has a different 5th gear, i believe.

The D16Z6 trans (92-95 si) is a very very nice trans. I used to have one. The final drive is 4.1:1, i believe.

There's a pretty good performance difference between that and the DX transmission.

if you have ever changed the clutch on your honda, then you already know what to do to swap the trans.. if not.. its not that hard. get the serivce manual from my sig link and read over it

It bolts on. No mods.

The clutch goes onto the engine, not the trans. The D series (hydro) motors all share the same clutch anyway.

Any D series hydro clutch should work. Getting an si tranny in there will make a good difference.

I sold mine last year for around $125. Idunno what prices are like. You can try finding one at a junkyard too. A del sol Si, and the civic Si are the same (SOHC). the 92-95 EX has a slightly higher 5th gear. I think the 96+ EX is a bit higher gearing than the 92-95 Si alltogether, but still much nicer than the DX.

A D series trans...if you've never done it before might take a few hours.

I swapped out a trans (DX to Si trans) and did a clutch while I was in there in about 3 hours back in the day. I could probably go faster today. Just depends on how much experience you have, and how rusted everything is. And the tools you have lol.

Take your time, and do it right, though. Taking your time once and making sure everything is solid still takes less time than hurrying through it twice.

To answer your next questions:

Use Honda MTF (1.5 quart capacity).

Use a punch or an AC compressor bolt (that you will no longer want to use) for the shift linkage pin.

Dont use a pickle fork. There are better ways to dislocate a ball joint.

The trans weighs about 50 lbs.

Flywheel torque: 76lb/ft
clutch cover torque: 18lb/ft
