Yes you must bleed the system starting with the wheel furthest away moving to the wheel closest. Search for a DIY

Are you leaky fluid from somewhere?? Are you making sure the res stays full during the bleeding process. You make have to do it 2 or 3 times to get pedal hard again

A full system bleeding job done properly usually takes 2 people and about 15-20 mins. Are you doing it by yourself? If you are theres no way your doing it right, you are probably making it worse. Also if you have a proportioning valve/block with air in it you might want to tap it gently with a screwdriver handle to dislodge any bubbles that might be stuck, same with master cylinder.
