Spoon Calipers - Urgent Question
http://www.modacar.com
Sells these one piece four pot aluminum calipers for $929 a set.

I purchased these spoon twin block four pot calipers for $1,300 a set. Most sites sell them for $1,500 a set or more.

How should I say this... I’m a bit concerned I paid a lot more than I should have. Could someone tell me how the first set shown here is so much cheaper and still an aluminum 4 pot system from Spoon. Are the twin blocks better? Please shed some light on this question of mine.

i saw the silver one in a japanese magazine that covers the tokyo auto salon not too long ago and its a different design (one piece?) or something....not sure is it for DC2 though.
Josh,
the silver one is a prototype for S2000 I believe. Spoon never really makes it. The newer one you saw is a one-piece design for DC5R and S2000. Our car and the Civic Type R still uses the 2-piece one that you bought.
Trust me, the price you paid is very good.

Spoon has never released a non-blue caliper for public sale---ever. They have displayed silver/goldish looking calipers at shows and in magazines several times. Those are prototype versions. A&J actually has one of those prototypes at their shop.
There are two versions of the Spoon 4pot caliper. The original version is the twin-block, and the new version is the mono-block. The mono-block is a one piece design and is just a bit larger. The twin-block is obviously a two piece design and you can see the seam line running through the center of the caliper. The mono-block, being a one piece design, is a bit more rigid than the twin-block. The mono-block calipers are intended for the new Honda cars, ie. S2000, DC5R, EP3R, etc. and cost quite a bit more than the original twin-blocks.
The easiest way to tell which is which is to look at the shape and the position of the Nissin word. The twin-block calipers have the Nissin word on top of Spoon where as the mono-block calipers have it underneath. The mono-block calipers also look more like a curve.
The price listed at http://www.modacar.com is fishy. Maybe that is the price for ONE mono-block caliper. And the picture is definitely not of a production model.

Which caliper is for the U.S. spec ITR?
Spoon website got two different part numbers; Is one a monoblock and the other a two piece design?
45018-EK9-G00, 45019-EK9-G00
45018-DCR-G00, 45019-DCR-G00
What are the difference between the two? And will the monoblock fit under the stock 15" wheel?

the current Spoon Integra caliper (not sure if it is a monoblock design) will fit under the stock OE wheels.

And NO, you cannot fit the new 4pot caliper beneath the stock wheel.

thinking of getting those

DUH! Paying 1300$ for 2 calipers that don't say BREMBO or AP RACING on the side of them is just plain non-sense !
I don't, and never will, understand why people pay such outragious prices for JDM stuff.

.....all the more reason to get 16" spoons.

Or stick with the older spoon calipers. :D
no that 1 piece is not for dc2.
i read this taiwanese mag that 1 piece is for DC5.

Do a little bit/or alot of fabrication and you can get it to fit on just about any car (not that you'd want too). It's possible because the brackets aren't integrated into the caliper body, just like the universal Brembos.

My friend was at Type ONE in Japan and he asked about the difference in part number, I think the reply he got was somewhere along the lines of. "Different part number, but same product".
