Realtime ITR front Lip. making a copy of it.
so as some of you may know i acquired the front bumper/lip a few years ago from a race at VIR.
the lip is in one piece. missing i think just two sections.

as you can see its missing that one bit, and on the other end of the lips (you can't see in this pics, its also missing a chunk).
first question is, is there any legality behind copying this lip.
second is with those bits missing, would it still be possible in copying the lip in fiberglass.

ok well i guess ill go ahead and look into it. im not into the front lip scene. didnt know they already had copies of the realtime lip..
trying to see how much this would run me.

as long as you dont try to make copies to sell, i dont see why it would be illegal.

They don't. He was just saying companies that make copys of other parts.
interested in the lip. Your picture isn't working by the way.

I don't dispute that. I would be suprised if they paid for a patent for the splitter though.

How did you acquire it? I would assume that most race teams would frown upon someone copying their proprietary aero pieces, though they may not have actual legal recourse.

Honestly, I would want one just because of Realtime and who they have represented through the years. I'm thinking Realtime Poster....Realtime lip (painted to match) hanging above like a big frame
i got it back in 02 (i think) when the speedworld challenge came to VIR.
i was up there pit crewing for another guy. we werent far from the realtime tent so i would stop in periodically and chit chat with the guys. Hunterrrr and i were there.
so it was the top 10 shootout or something and klienubing rolled his R.
so that whole night they were working on his car and the day after i asked if i could have some parts. then said wait til the end of the race and most likely we could have the scrap parts.
well they had one SSR wheel, the rear spoiler, a fender and bumper/lip to give out.
i couldnt pass it up.

could that be something one could do after the install of the lip? i didnt manage to pick up the undertray. (im sure they had one there somewhere).

you could, but I'd just make it one piece with the splitter portion of the lip. then you just have to attach one big sheet of CF, fiberglass, signboard, whatever you wind up using. Simple as can be. Thats what I plan on doing if I ever make one.

The tray could be integrated with the whole lip/bumper assembly.
As Erik mentioned, there are different kind of materials you can choose from. CF, plywood, aluminlite, etc. and in addition to attachments to the lip, it should/could also be hung by L-brackets bolted to the factory front tow hook locations. Otherwise the piece would sag.
This is how mine was done:

the only problem I see w/ that is the amount of downforce that it produces....
Wai, I remember seeing a on trak photo of your car where the tray was producing so much downforce the bumper cover looked like it was going to come off....
Did you remedy that w/ some sort of reinforcement?
What material is this made out of?
carbon honey comb laminate?

Thats a cool pic.
Would a splitter that is someway retractable a solution? You could add downforce by extending(pulling it out) the splitter or take it away by pushing it in and making less surface area.
Maybe even splitters(lips) that are interchangeable with the bumber for diff uses.

Yeah but don't forget that the JDM ITR has the smallest bumper reinforcement I've ever seen. It doesn't even extend out to support any part of the bumper cover.
With the US front end, I highly doubt that it's gonna deflect like mine did.
I am thinking about putting in some bull horns (attached to the frame) under the bumper cover, mainly for better protection, and support the cover for better downfoce.
