synchro question
hey guys, the second gear synchro in my si tranny is bad. When i down shift into 2nd it grinds n when i upshift at high rpm it grinds. Should i take the synchro from my dx tranny and swap it into the si one? would dat work? or would i need to order the synchro brand new from honda???
Wow that transmission stuff gets really expensive. I had a grind just like yours so I replaced my fluid like 3x in 2 years and everytime it was milky grey shiny looking. It is caused from bad synchros but to replace them is high $$$ especially paying some one to do the work for you.
You can't find individual synchros new. I'm not 100% sure if the DX and Si ones would be the same for 2nd gear, more like 95%.
If you don't feel comfortable tearing apart your trans, just get another one, but if it were me I'd rebuild it myself.

yea but if i buy another used si trans thats atleast 16 years old there would probably be something wrong with that one too. so i think i'm gonna give it a shot and call honda n see how much that synchro is and just get it fixed.

You can only buy the synchro set from Honda or anywhere else for that matter, not individual synchros. I'd actually recommend Gearspeed if you're going that route.
Be sure to replace your ISB and oil seals while you're in there.

ISB = Input shaft (mainshaft) bearing. Are you talking about axle seals or transmission seals? I'm talking about the ones inside the trans.
I do believe that Gearspeed sells carbon coated synchros.

no the seals inside the trans also because my tranny use to leak really bad when i first put it on the car so i got the axle ones replaced and the ones inside the trans. I just didnt think my synchro was shot, i thought it grinded 2nd because of lack of oil....does gearspeed have a website or where would i order the parts from them?

Yes, because Honda OEM parts = big $$$. Take a look at GearSpeed's prices.
