Default b16a Compression boosting

ok, so i have my b16a in my EF, and i want some more pickup. So i thought maybe if i get a mugen or spoon head gasket, that would up my compression. what do you guys think? what do you think i should do to get some power out of the motor without major tuning?

a mugen or spoon headgasket is only gonna give u a couple of tenths of compression, you could always change out the cams, the obd0 b16 cams are a joke. put some newer b16 cams in, or gsr cams, or ctr/itr cams. while you have the head off, you could have some port and polish work done, new valves, new valve springs, etc. port match the intake and exhaust manifolds.

not a power adder but what tranny do you have? the y1 is the worst unless u were boosted, its about as long geared as a us ls tranny, change out the tranny that would help, if you dont have a jdm s1 or j1. something to think about.

exhaust, intake, flywheel, all will help.

Thanks Dude! Very useful info! My tranny is just the stock b16a tranny. i just didnt know which trany will fit on it. So the ls trany will fit on? and also which cams would you suggest. i hear the type r cams would do the most. but not sure. my motor is stock right now aside from a ram air intake (good for noise) and a spoon ecu chip

there are several cable b16 trans out there.
you have the jdm j1,s1,y1, and ys1 longest of those is the y1, shortest is the ys1.dont get me wrong, the j1 and s1 are good too. if you want good internals and have a y1 trans, i have a j1 set up with gear speed synchros ill let go for 400 shipped.

then you have the u.s s1,j1,ys1 all in the integras, long geared. good for turbo, sucks for all motor.

itr and ctr are pretty much the same cams if im not mistaken.

all 90-93 integra trans are cable BUT, 92-93 used different internals if im not mistaken. i think the input shaft is bigger, therefore needing a different clutch.

you can use a hydro tranny if youd like, but youd have to get a conversion kit from innovative or hasport, and i reccommend the innovative kit.

but pretty much any newer or aftermarket vtec cam, will be better than what you have.

good luck.

Y1 is not the longest, infact it's the one right behind the YS1. Get the info right.

Want more power, get a GSR block and swap your PR3 pistons from your B16 in. 11.2:1 CR and with CTR cams, and a tune, will give you numbers closer to 180whp. You don't need more then that for a street car. You basically build yourself a poor man's R.

y1 is longer geared, not as long as the us y1, but its long geared. thats why its good for turbos. i know my info, ive had a j1,y1, and ys1.

thanks for all your help guys. so all in all, which transmission is the stock b16 a first gen, is that the ys1? all these number codes are getting confusing for a noobie like myself :D so JDM_ef9_b16, what car did your j1 tranny come out of? and is it a longer geared transmission than the stock b16 transmission that i have?
oh and im getting ctr cams just so you know

if you look down at your trans, where is butts up to the block, right below the dizzy, there should be a tag there. just look at that, all these were stock b16 transmission ys1 92-93 integra, s1 and j1 came from the 90-91 integra, y1 came from the 88-91 civic/crx. but like i said, just look at the trans under the dizzy on the part that faces the front of the car. lemme know if you find it or dont.
