should i use a block guard
hey im building my block with just pm7 pistons on a d16z6. going for 12:1 compression. should i use a block guard? im not gonna spray it or boost it this is just for a project...

Well, for example, you could put an electric fence around your house and have armed guards patrol your property. That would make your house a lot safer, but it's completely unnecessary.

x2, not worth it unless your planning a 400hp d-series. And ive heard rumors of the guard hendering cooling??

the block guard does hinder cooling. easy to realize cause it disrupts flow in the water jacket.
anywho, yer not gonna boost or use nitrous. theres no need for the block guard.

block guards are primarily for forced induction, and even then they are a band-aid. they WILL hurt your cooling and not be as beneficial as a resleeve.

Does OVER KILL mean anything?? Seriously, theres no need for a block guard. And I am pretty sure you don't weld them in either. That would cause deformities in the roundness of the cylinder.. maybe... but I did not weld mine. Had to press in.
when using a block guard make sure the holes are big enough for the coolant to go threw easy.. on my buddies car it was overheating and we had to open it up and drill the holes bigger.... and who cares how much power your making, if you wanna do it then do it... but sleeving a block is much safer then the block guard, pricey but safer

better make sure tht b20 is a standard bore! lol If not, I wouldn't see it staying cool if lasting long if thats the case. Ive got a b20 block that was boosted i bought from a guy. Not sure what name brand the block guard is, but he sd that the guy he put it together for had problems w it heating up on him. Think he was around 5or7 pounds. It was tuned but only lasted around 3or4 months tho. If you get it properly tuned real well from someone tht knows what theyre doing, i wld say it wld last longer. How much are you wanting to put in to it? Such as good rods and pistons? If you did all that, it should be a pretty good ride. A dude from my area is boosting one on a greddy kit on 7psi and watched him track down an 03 lightning w slicks and "150" shot. Or sd to be. He was deff spraying it but didnt hear anyone that vouched for it. It was pretty quick tho. Is ure block a jdm b20b block? Have heard from a sev ppl that the walls are designed diff from the usdm and the area between 2 and 3 is thicker(area where most b20s crack) awa maybe the cylinder walls might be a little thicker themselves. Ive got both blocks in my basement so ill get the mics out and let you know for sure.
