Default do b16s consume oil? lossing 1Q per 3000 miles...

i bought a 2000 si 5 months ago and have noticed that is seems to consume about a quart of oil every 3000 miles. i am using 5w--30 mobile one syn in the car. is this a normal occurrence for b16's. could switching to a 10w-30 possibly help?

that's not bad actually. my b18c1 has lost almost 2qts in a little over 3000 miles. vtec engines tend to go through oil a little quicker than most.

yeah ive noticed alot of b-series vtec's burn oil. my best bud's gsr would burn about a quart or a little less every 4k ish. anybody know why the consumption? just the nature of high revving b-series motors? my 86 honda 700 streetbike doesnt burn any oil and its gets taken to 11k all the time.

I think it has to do with the timing change with VTEC, atleast ive heard that as what is supposedly a short simple explaination to a long intense complicated one

It happens about the same on my non-vtec ls motor. Switching from syn to reg oil seemed to help.
