Default Critique my 1st round of mods - 94GSR

I just picked up a 1994 Teg GSR and now it's time to get down to busines as this thing is bone stock.

I work at a parts store with access to Vibrant, Skunk2 and AEM/DC so for the sake of getting a good deal and ease of ordering I'md like to stick to these companys.

I'm pretty much sold on the Vibrant 4-2-1 race header as it's the only one I have access to with a 2.5" colector which should give me some room to grow later on.

I've been looking at the Skunk 2 n1 style catback, its a bit smaller t han 2.5" but still bigger than what I have access to from dynomax and magnaflow, the other option would be having a mufflerhop press bend me a system and using a magnaflow/vibrant resonator and muffler - any sugestions here?

Intake I dunno what to do, the V2 is nice but is pricey, and i'mm almost certainlydo a blox/s2 intake manifold later so I want to be sure it will work. Should I just get a short ram from AEM or Vibrant?

With teh above mods what sort of HP gain am I likely to see do you guy think?

After that round I'm gonna save up for the intake manifold and some s2s2 cams, will I def. need new springs with the s2 cams? What are cams and an intake manifold worth in HP?

Thanks.

with the i/h/e you're looking at 5-10whp. if you want a true 2.5'' exhaust look at http://www.kteller.com

s2s2 cams are big and absolutely require new valvetrain.

Being that you work at a shop that sells all these brands, you should talk to your co-workers, hopefully one of them at least knows what would be a good combo of parts for the least amount of cash flow. And for the intake, skip the V2, a short ram will be pretty close to the V2 gains for half if not 1/3 the price of the V2. Make sure you upgrade your Valvetrain with those S2S2 cams. I like the S2 pro-series I.M. I have one on my 97 gsr and a blox I.M. on my 98 gsr, the S2 just seems better made imo. Also, stay away from the crush bend exhaust, it won't be a true 2.5" once the pipe is crushed and bent. The kteller one is really cheap and a true 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust. But so far sound like a great start, good luck w/ the modding.

Thanks guys.

I've been reading a lot of comparissons between the blox and s2 intake they apear to be very similar but the s2 comes out on top it's not that much more $ so i'm gonna go that route for sure and do cams/valvetrain at teh same time, but that is a couple pay checks away.

Thansk for mentioning kteller, I checked out thier site and like the fact I can get piping from them and add a muffler of my own choice as i'm looking for something fairly quiet.

Are there any other relatively quiet 2.5" catback options? Its hard to find good measurment info. I know you guys hate exhaust questions and its pretty subjective, but if someone can rattle off a list of 2.5" diameter systems i'll do my own research.

Last newb question: are DC/AEM, Injen, and vibrant short rams pretty equal in terms of power gains and will they work with the s2/blox intake?

Lastly what kind of WHP can I realistically expect from my total proposed package of:

Hot air intake
Vibrant 2-2-1 header
2.5" exhaust of some kind
S2S2 cams and springs
S2 intake
And probbaly cam gears
Plus a good tune (chrome) as I already have a moates osterich in my other car

??

Thanks!

Remember, when you order your intake, order one for a type r since you'll be using essentially a type r IM, if you get a GSR intake, the intake won't sit right cause a stock gsr IM has the TB sitting a lot lower than the ITR or Skunk2 or Blox IM. The CAI's are pretty much the same, i say just get the cheapest you can get. As far as the exhaust, I liked the Kteller cause as you mentioned, you can weld on your own muffler, i used a magnaflow muffler and resonator, now my car is much quieter than my greddy exhaust. There are a few other true 2.5" exhaust out there but for the price, the kteller is my reccomendation. With those mods, you should be at around type numbers if not more with those s2 cams. Good luck

OK I bit the bullitt and ordered EVERYTHING including the cam, and springs and a s2 intake. Kteller only had a pipe w/o resonator in stock, so i'm sur ethis thing is gonnabe way to loud, I gues i'll add a vibrant resonator after if it's too much with just the apexi N1 muffler.

Now i'm wondering, should I get a thorttlebody or at these power levels is the stock one OK?

I'm going to try and get it all on next weekend and take some pics of the install.

Hopefully i'll get you guys some dyno numbers before the snow flys

Any guesses?

get a magnaflow 2.5" resonator, i used a 14" long one on mine with one of their straight through mufflers, car sounds quiet and has a nice deep tone.
