Default car shelf?

[copied from an EF forum post. thought this place might be more relevant because of past garage setup discussions]

Ok, this is a strange question, so I'll try my best to explain myself.

I have a space that is not quite high for a proper full sized hoist and I want to know if there is some type of frame/shelf or hoist that is manually operated so I can put 2 CRXes where only one sits at the moment.

So some kinda of geared windup shelf where I can wind one car up into the air and then roll another underneath the first. A powered unit would be nice but I'm thinking a manual one would be cheaper?

Also: I don't intend to work on the cars or use this thing to work on cars, i just want to store 2 cars in a space that currently holds one car. I'd even go as far as to remove the supsensions from each car so that I don't have to hoist the top so far up (tighter clearances)

Do you guys know what I mean? Anyone seen such a setup?

4post hoists are too tall. I don't have enough height.

i wish i could remember the name of the company back in 04 when we had a booth at PRI the guys next to us sold lifts just like what your talking about, they were very short and rasied up just enough to fit a car under them.

look around the net for storage lifts, mid height. they are out there.

This is something that might work. It is under 6' 10" tall. 82 Inches to be exact.

Goes for around $1,750 and you can buy it off Ebay here.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem

Here is another one that is 6' 11" - 83 inches tall.

On Ebay for $1,595
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVW

There are more that are cheaper and Im sure you can find a used one for under $1K

How high is your ceiling?

Hope this helps.

Or you can build something like this yourself. I wish I had a setup like this!

Well, my shed is like this at the moment...

I'm planning to knock it down and get a new shed. I'm I hoping to get 2 cars (vertically) so they can be in "storage" and a third car in the side area where I can work on it.

Local councils are very strict on shed heights

If the shed can't be raised over a certain height, what about making the floor drop the difference? Slope the foundation down and drop it a meter ... more costly, but would work.

From the looks of it, you won't be able to fit anything over the first car. Is that ceiling removeable?

read the op's thread dumas...hes building a new shed...

my opinion....take the old shed apart...it appears to be built on slab. Id raise the footing walls up from the slab about 3-4'l and reassemble it all...only problem would then be your doors...you have to make an extension piece onto the existing to cover the 3-4" difference

I think your better off knocking the shed down and putting up something like this which is 30' across x 40' deep x 15' tall.

I am sure you can get one locally to avoid shipping cost from the US. I can get one similar to the one above for about $3,000 and they are really durable if put together properly.

we all have dumb *** moments. I have them daily so don't feel bad. LOL

Anyone here live the New England area? For those who dont know what New England is, it is the combination of Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts & Rhode Island

If anyone locally needs help in putting one of these up, let me know and I will gladly help on the weekends as long as you buy me lunch and dinner and take me out to the local street races that night. I am in Rhode Island and I have so far gone to Boston MA, Fall River MA, Berlin Turnpipe in CT and a place in NY where I cant remember the city name but was the most amazing night of my life.

There were literally like 500+ people (probably about 150-200 cars) there with cars in enclosed trailers, I mean full out tube chassis Mustangs and even a ful tube chassis RWD Saturn with a V8 Twin Turbo motor. I was amazed and scared and did not race.

The thing that suprised me the most was the cop that drove by on the other side of the highway which we blocked off. He pulled over and was just sitting there watching and I was about to run until I noticed him talking to some of the other people there and came over and watched the races. **** like that dont happen around here.

These guys were sneaky as **** and there was this one Talon that seemed to beat everyone by about a few feet whether it was an 12 second Civic or a 10 second Mustang. He was the unbeatable street car and it was so clean. Black Paint, Limo Black Tint, Black Wheels, Black Intercooler, everything was so dark and it just screwed. Turns out it was one of the 1G DSM's running mid 9's without Nitrous that competes on the East Coast. I wont mention names or more vehicle specs due to the trouble he could get in for street racing.

It was unbelievable that these people could do this without having to worry about getting arrested or have their car towed. It was as well organized as any event I have seen at Englishtown - the Tower and Pit. I can't wait to go back again and see if everything still works the same. Probably not but its worth a try!

For some reason, I just find street racing so much more exciting & competitive as waiting in line at the track for 1 1/2 hours to get one run and then repeat process is so boring and most of the time you dont know your competition in the next lane.. Street racing is what got me interested in cars and still I find street racing more exciting than sex.. LOL

It was just so much fun and I miss all those Friday & Saturday nights. In 8 years, the only time I ever saw an accident was here in Providence, RI about 3 years back. Cops came to break everything up and as 2 cars were racing down the street at 80+ mph the cop pulls in front of them rather than letting them pass. Needless to say the kid in the Integra was seriously injured and sustained permanent damage. The Police officer was fine. The Integra swerved to avoid hitting the cop who pulled out and hit a telephone pole. We have never had a problem with the way things were organized but the cop car purposely pulled out to stop him and fugured he would just stop. It didnt work out as planned.

DAMN, I got way off topic there. Sorry If anyone wants to see some of my videos, let me know and I will put them on Youtube or Streetfire..

Again, sorry about going so way off topic.

thanks,
Josh L

Guys, neither of you are "dumas'es"...

I am building another shed but the thing is that the new one can't really be any higher/larger than the old one. My house sits on a 780 metre squared block and the rules are that you can only have 60% coverage of the block (of which my house eats up the most)

I love my old hondas and if there is a way I can get MORE of them then, regardless of how difficult, then I will try... (i'd store them in teh roof space of the family home if I could!)

So far the posts here have been promising which gives me hope.

just a random idea...but what about 2 rotisseries...you could take off the bumpers of both cars...mount them to you home-made rotisseries...and then both could fit sideways in 1 bay and then other could be to do work etc...

That is not a bad idea. A rotisserie would work and that is a very unique way but I'm sure that would work and you can find them for about $300 - $900 on Ebay.

Hope that helps.

only problem being if these cars have any fluids in them they would need to be drained first. kinda of a hassle.
