vector drawing, you make shapes and fill them in with color.

Thats nothing. I made over 450 paths (shapes) in this one. I've seen some with 7000!

Super long time. Each colored shape is a different piece thats needed to compose the final image.

I'm assuming you're using Illustrator?

There's a lowball version in photoshop you can play around with if you're not very skilled, its a filter but it still works. Cutout.

photoshop is weakk... real vector artists use illustrator.

The cutout filter in photoshop is weak, but easy to do, like live trace in illustrator. Those two options are the easy way out.
