Default 10 point cage w/ heat in tact???

ok, so the question is to those with 10pt. cages. i have an eg and am considering a 10 pt cage but i have concerns about the crossbar under the dash. what kinda modification is going to be needed on the underdash components such as the heater and all of its components? i am looking at the s&w cage kits specifically if anyone has personal experince with them.

you could probably keep the heater stuff, but behind the guage cluster could get tricky.

I just pick up my cage from them yesterday, they were very helpful. But my car is a racecar so I have nothing behind the dash. If you ask for the spec of the cage they will send it to you. then a little measureing and you can get a base idea what will need to be done.

yeah i figure im gonna have to just wait and see. i was really hoping for someone with my same car and cage setup to give some insight. i intend on making the car full race at some point but right now it still sees some street duty. even when it goes full race i will prob have tags on it itll just have a gutted dash and a few less comforts (heat, cool fan air, no radio) you know, stuff like that. how do their door bars fit also? is the rest of the cage pretty tight fitting? i should have just made this an s&w question post!!!

no. a 10 pt 8.50 certified cage (stock frame) consists of main hoop with cross bar, rear support bars, door bars, a-pillar bars, and d-bars mounting to lower cross bar (under main hoop). the rules dont say anything about a knee bar.

I thought those bars were only if the firewall had been modofied more than 1sq. ft?
They are a pain to put in, but they sure add alot to the safety and structure of the car.

depending on were the A pilliar bars come down you can put one in with all the HVAC stuff still in the car.

I had it all in my race car and a dash bar, but my cage was custom.

ok thats pretty understandable. that would def. make my life alot easier. i will still be doing a through the dash style cage just no dash bar now. it would add alot of strength im sure, but i dont think it would be too major of an issue to not have it i hope. i gotta go read through my rule books and make sure thats gonna be fine for nasa rules.
