Default JDM ITR Motor VS USDM ITR Motor- Decisions???

Well I'm at a situation where i probably leave the FI Scene and was thinking of the 98-01 spec ITR JDM Motor w/4.7FD N/A

I would like to ask those who have own or personally driven these motors a few Q's?

#1) Compression Cylinder Tests Difference from the two motors?
#2) How are the 4.7FD for Daily Driving?
#3) Overall is it worth the $4K +mods (in the future)?

*Please Indicate notes: If any mods. have been touch ex: Headgasket, milled, OS Pistons ect.

Try an ATS 5.077FD with M-Factory close gearing... It'll be fun topping out at 110mph.

Yes, 4.785FD is fine for daily driving from what I've been told.

4.400FD = 154mph

4.785FD = 142mph

4.928FD = 137mph

4.400FD with M-Factory 3rd (1.695), 4th (1.296), 5th (1.000) = 131mph.

... Yeah, I haven't been researching final drives/gearing lately.

Well I'm only shooting for 200-215whp, so 4.928FD would be great for my setup. Parts have to work together.

im under 4k and under the speed limit with OEM JDM ITR trans. i dont remmber but i think 100km is like 37 3800?
i loveeee my JDM R swap.
i have driven a few of my friends USDM R's with USDM motors and maybe the ones they have are just tired or mine is extra quick but...

also its worth considering to have a b18c5 in the engine bay instead of a b18c. depending on what your going for...

******* winds me up when people call it a 4.7 final drive

if you're going to bother rounding it, last time i checked 4.785 was closer to 4.8 than 4.7. fucksake.

70mph is 3,900rpm. perfectly liveable

don't lie. even when my car was stock i smashed 150mph in 5th, with more rpm's to go. the speedo isn't THAT innaccurate

i jus drove my whip, 100km was 36-37 right in the middle. and 110 is 3900.... thats very drivable.
i say go for the NA! if you want to go for the max power quest... sell the R and use the extra money and decreased attention to fund a really fast fmic'd out GSR or LS or RS.
thats what i would do... i love NA but if i had something like an SI or something, id imagine snails would sound pretty good...

How much would it cost to have a 4.785 final drive put in? Is it a DIY project? This is a mod I was contemplating on getting in the future

Are you mechanically inclinded? Do you feel comfortable with a lot of moving parts?

My first transmsision that I rebuilt took me a while, but I acomplished it. You'll feel proud that you did it all yourself.

I myself, I'd rather pay a professional to do something like transmission work. Hell, I just pay to have everything done on my Type-R, other cars I enjoy working on, but with this car, I'd rather just know it's done right.

With that being said, if you know what you're doing, give it a shot. I'd rather have it done by someone who knows what they're doing.

'98 spec 'mission

as the dudes talking about a JDM motor or a USDM motor, i figure he's talking about getting a tranny with the engine, so it wouldn't be just the final drive anyway

yea

True but 98 Spec JDM ITR transmission have a 4th and 5th GSR gears. So obviously if you put a JDM 4.78 final drive into a US tranmission (or a JDM 97-97) it will be more aggresive in 4th and 5th.

I have the 96 spec ITR motor totally felt a difference over the US ITR. I think it is worth it, all I have on my motor is intake, exhaust, and flywheel and it moves pretty good but it is a personal choice so its up to you.

^ That's what I was getting at.

That's funny... Because the '96 Type-R is more similar to the USDM Type-R.
