Distributor Rotor
I went to change my cap and rotor yesterday, which should have been a ten minute job, but I ran into a snag. Basically, when I open up my cap, there is the rotor, and a plastic covering over the coil. There's a kind of channel built into the covering to make access to undo the screw holding on the rotor, which is all supposed to line up, but mine doesn't. It looks like it needs to rotate about another 45 degrees. So is there any way to do this/did I screw something up/is something messed up with mine?

Yes, you can connect your battery and have a friend watch the screw as you crank your motor over using the ignition switch. Just turn your key and have it engage the starter and quickly let go, rinse, repeat until screw is in view. That's how I did mine....

No, just give it a quick crank, you'll be fine. I actually do this with the cap still on and the spark plug wires disconnected to prevent any stupid crap from happening.

Just bump the key on to move the engine a small amount. You can do it with the cap off. You won't hurt anything.
Good luck getting the screw out.
If you need to remove the dizzy to get the screw out. Don't worry it's easy. It only fit's into the cam in one way.
I have had to cut the old rotor off with a cut off wheel and then take small needle nose vice grips to remove the screw.
Lay a towel under the dizzy before you pull it out of the head. it will leak a little oil.
The connectors can be a hassle if you don't realize you have to push two clips at the same time to disconnect them.
