Snap ring pliers?
Can someone please tell me what tool they use to reinstall the snap ring that goes in the transmission case? I have "snap ring pliers" but they are not the right kind apparently...
you dont need to "reinstall" the snap ring with pliers. just test fit the case to make sure it goes almost all the way one so that only the snap ring is holding it back, put some hondabond on the case, put the case back on as far as it will go, put a few bolts in to hold the case, grab the trans and flip it over and the snap ring will pop back into place. you may have to shake or jerk it around but it will pop in place.
You can bend the ring without spreading it. I've done it before.
I got some snap ring pliers from Harbor Freight or Northern Tool, don't remember which one). Instead of bending the tips go straight down like normal pliers. Bond the case up, spread the ring, and press the case down, then put a few case bolts in, flip it over, and lightly drop it on some wood. The ring will be spread over the bearing, then snap into place when you drop it. Can be done by one person. This is how I do all the trans that I build and its the easiest way I've found.
