poor mans type R or the real type R ??
What do you guys think? Should I go with the real Integra type R swap or have a GSR longblock built up with all the aftermarket forged stuff and headwork-valvetrain stuff?? Is any one more reliable than the other?? Money isnt to much of an issue. Seams like the ITR swap would have the quicker turnaround time as far as getting it installed into my car and stuff. Comments needed
the reliability of the itr motor is great i have a 98 spec. but the built gsr is awesome. my built gsr made a hell of alot more power than my stock r.
it depends on what u want and what its going in. if its not a daily driver than i say build the gsr. if its daily i say itr or rebuild the gsr with itr internals and by rebuild i mean use oem parts not forged.

agreed, can't go wrong with OEM, built to last!

I like the saving time and headache part
I would forsure be a daily driver. I figured having a type R swap in my EK and Do a low boost k24a4 in my other civic.

So you mean to say that a fully built b18c1 with forged pistons and rods is less reliable than one built with itr internals??? Please explain, because I think that the built one would be stronger if done right. Correct me if im wrong here? =]
will i guess this goes with what you consider built ya know replace all componenets with oem and a few little parts changed built then yea its a lot more reliable but built for me is something with high compression long duration cams, and lift, and cam gears for retardation or advancement, race PP head which will allow the head to breathe with big cams, valves springs, retainers, valves not oem ones replaced something like that would not be strong and reliable only because of the compression and the way its running something has got to give ya know like funny cars when they race everything gets replaced vice versa... ya know just my 2 cents in that

idunno if its just me or not but i have noticed that builds that use oem CAST parts last longer than builds with aftermarket FORGED internals. dont ask me why, i couldnt tell you.
my oem gsr build lasted a lil over 75k and my last aftermarked forged gsr build lasted me about 40k. i dont really beat my motors up.

"done right" can mean alot
it depends on how comfortable you are building the motor, or whoever is
if you're not going bigger bore and just slapping "aftermarket forged stuff", i'd go with the type-r motor
i trust the engineers at honda more

Iam appreciate the comments on my topic. Iam feeling that Iam gonna go with the ITR swap vs. the gsr build because it would be a DAILY driver and it would take me less than a day to drop in.

Well considering the guy who built mine has built thousands of motors I trust him completely, he has done 3 swaps for me personally so yes I mean "done right" Go ahead and spend 4500+ to do your itr swap. I'm not saying theyre bad at all, but a built gsr bored over and honed lol (no slapping of parts here) will produce more power and be just as reliable for less money. That even includes a itr tranny btw =]
