OT: Making a custom engine management system, hard?
I was thinking about this the other day and wanted to see what people thought.
I would think it wouldn't be that hard really.
Find a decent processor, write the program in assembly.
I guess what I am really wondering is what is really inside an ECU. Obviously a central processor (like a MIPS type chip I would think), input and output, but other than that can't be much else. couple megs of ram/rom maybe.
Ideas?

Honda did so many research, it's not easy to achieve that level.
The hardware is not the problem. It's the software!!!

A friend at work showed me a link to something called "Big Squirt" or something like that.
Come on!
If you were an EE hobyist and nobody made an electronic/computer controlled fuel injection system for your car, then maybe.
But with all that's available now in virtually plug-and-play condition, ... get real!

We have a dozen Apple IIc's that you can have for your "engine management system"... let me know if you want it.
Maybe you can run a parrallel setup.
