Default OT - Thinking of selling the car.

Well I'm tired of all the thefts and worrying, Not being able to take the car everywhere, etc. I love the car but the Stress isn't worth it anymore. I have a beater to drive on a regular basis But its nice to have a 2nd car you can actually drive around
Opinions are welcome but this is what I am thinking of for a replacement. Always wanted a factory boosted car.

Mid-Late 90's Lotus Espirit S4 (I4 Turbo) or If I find a good deal the V8TT model
http://www.espritfactfile.com/

PS Even if I sell, I'll still be on HT as always

I too, have thought it over selling this car. It's been violated once already, luckily i still have it... but after a good long thought, i cant imagine another car i'd rather have than a limited edition best handling car of the 20th century.

dont do it .... if you want to boost, boost the b18c5!

its quite capable of holding 5 psi of boost.. its more of a hassle, but any turbo equipped car is the same.

...or wait for the lancer evo?

It's not as "simple as that". Taking out the ECU actually makes it much easier for thieves. ECU relocation is a thought, however.

Espirit was my dream car when i was a kid because of being the BOND CAR of the late 70's and early 80s. Maintence is so high
that my mechanic said if I ever picked one up, I ain't fixing it for u!

If you really want to go mid-engine, there is a very special Honda out there.

I wouldn't want to deal with Lotus reliability or lack there of.

I've always loved those cars. However, theres a lot of downers for it as well .. very limited interior room, no dead pedal area (you have to put your foot under the clutch!), reliability problems, EXPENSIVE to fix, serious turbo lag .. if you can deal with all those things then It's a very unique car as well

I think you should keep your car. Sure the thefts and all the headaches are stressful but everytime I get behind the wheel it just gives me a smile like the first day I got it. If you really want to sell, don't drive it for a long time and then go out and take it for a spin.

See how it makes you feel. If you don't feel great about the car then it's time to move on. For me, I still grin from ear to ear when I'm behind the wheel.

Personally I would'nt sell the R, but the Lotus has a always been a car I wanted for years but you really have to remember :

L = loads
O = of
T = trouble
U = usually
S = serious

Well the best part is I have driven one of these cars a few times, My Uncle has one. He's also a pro at working on British cars, he has had Jaguars, Roll's Royces, MG's etc all through his life Some for fun some for business. So he has alot of knowledge about the cars. Trust me I know what a PITA it is to fix his Espirit recently needed one of the Gas Tanks replaced and the dealer wanted 2500 just for the labor The Tanks was only a few hundred, good thing he did his own and I always work on my own cars.
I'm not really worried about losing a Lotus for some reason, I don't think I would get as attached to it, Plus it wouldn't really be modded much so If anything happened I'm not losing so much as I would currently.

Fawk yeah Mike! I love the Lotus. Although I think I remember Dropspeed (who worked at a Lotus dealer...I think) saying they weren't too reliable.

I think the Lotus is a great car because you rarely see any! I raced one once on the street, beautiful car.

I say go for it! Time to move up, ya know? Besides we all know IPSRacing is pulling it in By the way, when should we expect IPS to go public, I wanna get in on the initial IPO j/k

I know exactly what you mean, However if you ever drive an Espirit that Snile will look more like the Jokers Ear to ear Grin Especially when the Turbo kicks in

like Mr. Knighton said, you'll be pissed at lotus reliability. Us R owners are pretty spoiled, bad *** car, very reliable. thats a rare combination. you should buy a NSX, especially since you have all the JDM/jap car contacts.....
