pillar removal
You're aware a portion of the side curtain airbags are located under that cover?
Rubber mallet - look for "side curtain airbag" - watch out for "boom!"

its easy... make sure key is off. Where the "air bag" logo is at by the top of the pillar, just hit it with ur fist or mallet wrapped in a towel. the clip will pop out... YOU MUST REPLACE THE CLIP. than it just pops out of the other clips (those you can reuse)
You've been lucky. While the sensor isn't up there, turning you key off does next to nothing.
Priorities in life I guess. Side curtain airbags that don't interfere with aftermarket a-pillar gauges. Or aftermarket a-pillar gauges.
Me, I'll take the side curtain airbag.

I would also take the airbags. Luck has nothing to do with it.. I installed accessories for honda for over a year and with day night mirrors and XM radio add ons you must remove the pillar, the instructions are straight from Honda.

No it is not. At least there was no bag under my pillar. There is a small section of the mechanism I think (piece of White ribbon and a ring that is attached - all towards the bottom of the pillar).
You need to release the top clip by hitting the pillar up at the top. You might have to use a hack saw blade to cut the clip in half once it is released. The bottom 2 clips just pull out. You will need to replace the top clip once it's released, can't re-use that clip.
Let me know it you need the part number.
I epoxied the gauge pillar to the stock pillar so I could use the same clip system the stock pillar uses. I also installed a leash in case the side curtain airbag ever blows. The leash will force the gauges up while the bag inflates out. This way I will not have gauges in my face.
Good luck

I think slamming the car door would make more of a shock to the pillar then you hitting on the trim piece. The sensors designed to take much larger shocks before it allows the airbags to deploy.
