Help Weird AT stock bb6 redlining at 8500 vtec kicking hard
97 Automatic prelude
So all of a sudden in the afternoons after i get off work my vtec hit really hard like i had cams in it and reving all the way past redline to 8500. This will last for a while and then go back to normal, vtec will hit but not as if i had a vtec controller and a built head. My CEL light came on when this started happening. What could cause it to all of a sudden redline at 8500 and feel like im boosting. The motor is stock.

So....you're saying your stock motor threw a CEL when you revved it to 8500? You DO know how this looks right? Sounds like you over-'TAK'd.....yo.

sounds like someone has tampered with the ecu...somehow.....
the stock ecu will not let you rev beyond 7650 (8k on the tach), not only that, i have a weird feeling that the CEL light is a shiftlight, lol.

Okay now I see what he's saying. Maybe gremlins switched his stock ECU with a ghey chipped one?
Seriously though, he could try on someone else's 5th gen P13 to check. The OP REALLY needs to stop revving past the stock redline though.

The only situations I can think of is maybe the transmission is slipping and he's revving higher than usual, combined with a faulty tach signal. As for the "feel like I'm boosting", well he does drive an auto.
Well i have other stick cars and i know what boost feels like. However the vtec is hitting like i had a shot of nitrous and the torque feels like i was never flooring it until now . It is the stock ecu and the tranny is not slipping. So what gives. Seriously it feels like i have cams in the car now on stock motor though.
by the way the cel light has now gone off still feeling very strong as metioned before as if i was hitting the nitrous at 6k rpms and not redlining till 85k kinda like the head was built and ran new ecu but all stock

i wish my motor redlined to 85k.. that would be one crazy vtak.
