Rev limiter/fuel cut off?
Hello all....I'm new to the forum.
The other day I kept in the throttle around a corner in 1st to long and the car just fell flat on its face(over 8000 RPM), then I remembered that I needed to shift and I was back on my way. Is it actually a rev limiter or like a fuel cutoff? The reason I ask is that people say the "bounce" it off the limiter all day, but mine doesn't bounce, it kinda just shuts down.
I did search and didn't find the answer....
Thanks all....Anyone from Nor Cal here? I'm in sacramento....

Ok, you hit the limiter, and the ecu cuts fuels, rpms drop a couple hundred, and the ecu adds fuel again, rpms raise and you hit the limiter again and it cuts the fuel, and so forth. Thats why you get that bouncing effect.
what you were probably experiencing was the VSA... you were going around a corner so the tires prly started to slip and the VSA kicked in... its almost like touching the brakes... just so happened that you were right around the rev/limit.

VSA uses the anti-lock system to stabilize the vehicle. So it is using the brakes.

I thought tha the 06 SI didn't have VSA?
Another topic.....Is it really worth it to put an intake on my SI? The dealer said that it had to have a "water box"?

you didn't tell us you had an 06.. just told us it was an si.
what the hell is a "water box" ?

do you mean a bypass valve? aem ones dont fit in our engine bay without some cutting

Sorry, It is an 06 SI. I guess I should've supplied more info before asking questions.
The tech at Honda said "water box"....Yes then, I guess I meant bypass valve. I read somewhere that it was best to put the short ram intake on during the rainy season....? I currently just have a K&N filter....
What cutting is involved? I don't like to hack things apart really. Isn't there one that fits, that is safe? With no mods at all, would it really be adventageous to put a CAI on it? It wouldn't really be noticeable other than a little sound difference right?

well the 06 Si has a rev limiter. Or shall i say is rev limited. Yes its the ecu telling the engine that the driver is trying to abuse it and so stop sending fuel at 8600rpms's, so it'll just keep hittin 8600rpms if u dont shift and stay on the gas.

You live in Folson, CA (Near Sac), you can run a full CAI all year long. I live in the bay area and run a full CAI all year and my car is dropped. Never had a problem. Just don't drive it through large puddles. Based on the weather predictions for the winter months, we are not going to have much rain to worry about anyway. The people that run their cars in areas where it snows have a bigger concern with Hydro-locking than us California boys.
Btw, the RPM limiter is set for 8,000 / 8,200 rpm, not 8,600 rpm, unless you are running the Hondata reflash. Personally, I don't think running the engine at the rev limiter (or bouncing the limiter) is the best thing for this car. The bottom end on these engines are built really strong, but to top end portion (valve train) is not as durable. In fact, many engine builders will recommend you change your valve springs and retainers if your going to run your engine over the factory set rev limiter.
