Default 2007 LX - wheel-mounted audio controls?

I've been lurking on H-T for about 3 weeks and haven't found the answer to my question - but I PROMISE that I've searched the previous posts. So - please don't flame me.

When I researched my Civic - the DEALERSHIP had listed the standard equipment to include the steering-wheel mounted audio controls. Alas - when I showed up to purchase the car - no controls....and my trade-in was DEAD - so I had to take it. Needless to say - the controls are NOT standard on an LX (per Honda corporate office) and the "stealership" has since corrected their information.

Anyway - can I add this to my car? I've asked this particular dealership and they will not begin to speak about it; so it's either DIY or take it to an after-market installer. I trust your opinions and hope that it's a possibility.

Thanks in advance!!

Can you add it... yes
Can the dealer all this... no

You would need all of the ex components

Ex Radio
Ex sub
EX amp
Ex buttons
etc etc then wire the whole thing up

where are you located?

Northeast Louisiana. If I'm going to have to add all of that - I might as well go *****-out and get the nav unit while I'm at it.

is it to hard to just turn up the radio manually? its only like 12" from the wheel as-is. yes, its a convenience but is it worth all the time and money your gonna have to spend to add it? i say no. my .02

Thanks Philip - I read your post about this earler, which actually got me thinking about doing the upgrades. I am interested - but I know it's going to be a couple of months before I actually have the time to get this done. If you still have the unit then - perhaps I can take it off of your hands. Until then - I'm definitely going to be exploring my options and doing quite a bit of research.

I understand your point, Sivic 3, but my reasons for wanting this installed is not for convenience issues - I like to keep both hands on the wheel as much as possible, so it's for safety reasons. I've managed to have '0' accidents for the past 10 years, and would like to keep it that way. Having everything at my fingertips helps.

I appreciate ALL of your replies and have checked out all of the links. This isn't something that I'll be doing myself - and I know a reputable after-market guy here. It's just finding the time to get it all done. Basically - by the time I'm finished, I'm going to have a leather EX without the moonroof. Probably won't do much for warranty repairs - but will definitely help the resale value in a couple of years.

I've learned a lot by lurking on this site - Honda-tech is the best!!!
