stock block Ls-vtec SUCKS (if you put pistons then its great but a stock LS block )...... go with the Stock B20 block with your GSR head!

i wouldn't go as far as saying a stock ls/vtec "sucks" with a stock block...

but the B20 block will offer you more torque, it would be my choice. If you're planning on working up to the FI, then you would probably be happier in the long run with the LS block.

You can do lsvtec and drop in some p30 pistons, they are stock and cheap to find. But if you want a bottom end you dont want to touch I would do a b20 b/c Im sure the TQ even with the low compression is better than my b16.

-Edit. Dont forget to throw on a vtec oil pump regardless of which block you choose along with corresponding water pump and timing belt.

what about a LS block with GSR crank, pistons and rods with ARP rod bolts?? Any good for a LS or LS Vtec build?

you want to stay with the ls crank and rods. Just drop in some pr3s pistons. Ls crank + rod = longer stroke. but if your gotta choose between an completely stock ls block or b20 block, my "opinion" is the ls. less torque, but more relaible for street driven. AND for american.Graffiti, why an "vtec oil pump", assuming you know what your talking about. Do you know what your talking about? if not, then stay quiet, stop giving bad advices.

Whats your budget? LS would be better in my opinion if your on a really thight budget. As stated before you can reuse factory pistons, as oppose to having to buy aftermarket with the B20.

Seriously using a vtec oil pump is not bad advice, lol. You just have to use the correct belt , being a vtec belt.

I cast my vote for the GSR. I had a LS in my first hatch, and it was fun but I wanted something that can rev higher so I got the GSR. It's the best of both worlds, stock 8k redline and good fifth gear torque, nothing but fun for me. B20V is a good contender , if built the right way, as the reliability will be there and you'll be making more power easier (if we're talking NA) but you can't beat the reliability of a factory VTEC motor. Also did I mention my motors already put together ? Haha jk

Lol I like how the thread is titled "LS-VTEC or B20-VTEC?" And LXRD_VTEC here, 9 years later, says GSR. LMAOOOO
