Elevation corrections?
Okay...is there a formula to figure elevation correection for time? I see people posting times of like 14.5 with elevation correction of 14.0
How do you figure that. Is 500ft a big deal? I ran a 15.4 at 500ft and a 14.9 near seal level. Just wondering if I just drove better or if it makes a huge deal.

The calculation is going to obviously be different for what altitude your at.
All I can say is that for a run at 5000 FT you would....
(Time you ran) X (.95) = (what you would run at sea level)
That's the only calcutlation I needed because I live/race at that altitude only.

The NHRA has an altitude correction list, but it doesn't apply under like 1200 ft, iirc. I know a bunch of guys that went to Kansas City (700ft) and ran times that would be expected at sea level, so I don't think 700ft makes much of a difference, and 500ft would be less of a difference. And keep in mind, most "sea level" runs aren't on the beach.
Here in CO, Bandimere is at 5280ft (iirc), and the difference ends up being about a second between here and sea level for most 15-16 sec cars. 500ft and 0ft would be a negligable difference.

Well I just raced at the california speedway here in fontana and on their website the elevation is listed as 1121.27 ft. above sea level.
According to this website: http://gnttype.org/techarea/misc/altitude.html. for an elevation of 1200 feet the calculated factors for 1/4 are: .9874, and the mph is: 1.0129. I found that there's a correlation of .0013 secs between every hundred feet, and .0014 mph for every hundred feet.
I did the math with my best 1/4 time of (14.740 * .9887) at (95.02 * 1.0115) and I got 14.573 @ 96.113 Not bad at all for behing 1121.27 ft above sea level! ok, i'm going to stop now.
