Alright, what the hell??...I can't get the damn tranny separated....
I have removed everything that My book tell's me...
-back up switch
-cable braket
-tranny to clutch housing bolt's
-Breather tube
I expanded the snap ring on the coutershaft and it still won't come off.
Do I some how take this ring OUT??
as of right now, I am having my freind expand the ring as I use 2 wrenches to pry the case off.
Still not working. It's definitely cought on something.
??WTF??
Do I need to throw this thing off a cliff for it too seperate?

Are you talking about taking the casing off the transmission or the transmission off the engine? cause if it's the latter you know you need to remove that little metal flywheel cover on the bottom of the engine (ask me how I know
)
)
Flip it so the case is facing up ward, well the snap ring part. Your get them about a 1/2 apart without the snap ring off. put something betweenthem that won't scratch, then work the snap ring, the gearset will drop away when you work it just right. Thats how I did it. Gettin the snap ring just so and pulling the case away at the same time will be very hard your way. Like I said flip the trans with the notorside on the floor, work the two parts far enough apart for a piece of wood or something that won't mar the case halves (no gasket remember) then when you spead the snap ring just right the gearset will drop that 1/2 inch, far enough the snap ring won't lock back in its groove, then just lift off the case. Real simple once you've done it that way.

sometime the shafts will not drop, you have to pry apart the cases while speading the snap ring (Craftsman #45492 BTW!) till the shaft/bearing drop out of the upper casing. Figure these parts have been together for 8-10 years and any gum will keep the bearing from dropping out.
it happened to me when i took my engine out , but it was that i missed a screw.. make sure u got the 6 bolts out... if it still stuck then its kida togheter bc of the time and pressure. get a rubber hammer and hammer the **** sideways.... while holding the engine with a cherry picker ... but better to have the engine +tranny out ....
Alright. I'll try it Virginia style.
I have tryed to do it that way...But I think we're just not opening the ring far enough. I'll try it in a couple of hour's, and I'll get back with the result's.

I think he got the cases apart but the Clip was holding the assy together. That clip is an SOB on its own, without trying to do two tasks at once. Thats why my way will hold the cases apart so that when the clip is free he'll know and may not nee any persuasion to get the shaft to drop. I know it took me a while, like 2 days to figure that out. even after I know the clip was the key.spreading and pulling an real hard to do at the same time. And using a screw driver is a real bad idea, or wrenches because those halves fit together with just a little honda bond, scratch it, chip it or chip it and you have leaks forever to deal with.

Mista Bone is the authority on transmissions around here. From what I gather "D" series engines too. He races one from what I read. Don't know anyone that knows more about them than he does. But just wanted to share my experience with getting this things apart. The first time is the hardest. Then you know what to expect. And I recently had my first chance to take one of these apart.

with proper tools it is cake work. The tool is suggested will spread the snap ring and hold enough pressure on the case half to pull it right off, one handed even!
