2007 Civic Si Coupe defective crankshaft!!!!! Help!!!!
I have owned my SI 07 Since Birth. I reached 2400 miles yesterday and all seemed well. Until today I was shifting from 3rd to 4th and shifted @ 8100rpm heard limiter once and was good til I stopped and heard the loud knocking.
My guess is the crankshaft had to be defective because this is a performance car and was meant to be driven aggressively. This alone could not have spun a bearing on a STOCK SI.
Now Honda is acting shady like I did something wrong. This is Some BS!!!

Driver error... If you hit the limiter by a misshift, its your fault, not Hondas. I just had an issue this weekend while in Reno where i shifted into second at a high RPM and it didnt catch and popped right back out... i got real close to the limiter but luckily i didnt hit it. Sucks that it happens but it does.
I highly doubt that the crankshaft is 'defective' or to blame for said knocking noise..., is the car stock? Still driving it?
The dealership is obligated to fix whatever the problem is, so leave it with them until it gets repaired.

Naw Man, I did what I said, you can not mishift like that on these trannies. I'm 30 years old I have been driving stick for over 12 years. I know how to drive like a champ.
Lets stick to the subject and leave the skeptiscm for HONDA!!!

A little more information would help.
What did you tell Honda? What was their response? Are you still driving the car? If so, how is it behaving? Any more weird nosies? Check engine light? Fluid leaking?
It seems to me that you need to leave the car with your local dealership for a proper diagnosis and repair instead of asking Honda-Tech about a "defective crankshaft".

You sound like a F##ing rookie. This is a race motor that can rev past 9000rpm the limiter is set conservatively to conserve the motor for longterm usage. I have stock b16 boucing off a 9100rpm limiter and last me a whole season.
So if you are going to criticize get your facts straight!!!!

Actually I hear that the K series is considered to be one of the best engines Honda has ever made. You can't knock it just because YOU are having major problems. There are plenty of us who have many more miles on our cars and who have shifted numerous times at the limiter (which is 8200rpm by the way....not 8100) without a single hitch.
Relax.....if you really didn't do anything wrong then you will be fine and the dealership SHOULD take care of it. If not....raise hell till someone does.
Good luck!

You can certainly mis-shift from 3rd to second on this transmission if you're not careful. It's probably the more common mis-shift next to shifting from 2nd to 1st instead of 3rd.
Not accusing you of anything, but it doesn't matter how old you are or how long you have been driving stick.....the potential to make a mistake is always there and certainly possible regardless of experience. But again...none of us can prove that you did or didn't make a driver error so there is no reason to accuse you of anything.
So it's certainly possible that you just have a defective crankshaft. The burden of proof rests with the dealer. They can't accuse you of anything without being able to prove it stone cold.

And I assume you're a perfect driver who has never made a single mistake in your driving life. Nobody's perfect man....chill out. Where do you get off telling someone to "GTFO" when they are trying to ask for help??

For some old guy who has so much experience, you should know that a MANUFACTURER who spends YEARS in R&D on these motors and parts would PROBABLY know better than you that if the rev LIMITER is at 8500rpm its probably there because thats about as close as you want to get before facking your motor in its ***. Jesus, some people make it harder for the rest of the world by being too 'sure' they are right.

the stock limiter hits 8200 then it cant get no further unless u have the Re flash. And the second thing is that the motor has 2400 miles on it. i hit vtec around there but i have no problems. Honda told me that there is no break in point for motor. but i heard that its around 3000. so if they check the ecu and see that you went to high in the red line then it may not be covered under warranty. Good luck with it though. I have noisy belts on mine!!!!

just some fyi for you but my k blew 2 valves and 2 cylinders at only 9191rpm according to what acura pulled from my ecu when it went

i melted my head and threw a rod threw my block on my si. i would say that i was well above normal driving limits as i misshifted and shot a rod threw my starter and radiator. yep. the motors are great but if u misshift or overrev it is going to be a bitch to get honda to come out on a warranty expence. call North American Honda and let them know that u are not satisfied wiht hte car and leave out the part about contstantly bouncing it off the limiter. the ecu will tell them everything anyway.
and just fyi in case u DO have to come out of pocket... a new k20z3 with all OEM internals... yea man its about $7500 give or take depending on how much extra **** u have to buy. thats the long block. if u just need a short block u can get that for around $4800. sucks man. hope it all works out for u

I bounce my K off of the limiter all of the time, and no prob here with 16k miles. Might just be connecting rod bearings, and if it is that is a pretty easy fix if you have any kind of mechanical know- how, good luck.
