Default exhaust question

I have an upgraded muffler and aem v2 intake on my 97 prelude, and I want to do a full exhaust. A friend of mine recommended that rather than buy a performance exhaust system i simply just run a straight pipe back, taking out the resonator and cat. How would this affect the performance and sound of my car? Because I would love to add some hp, but I dont want it to sound like a rice burner. Thanks in advance!

If you run a straight pipe to the muffler it will sound like a rice burner.

To be honest, i went down to a rad shop because i know a few of the guys that work there, I had the guy just put in standard 2 1/2 inch piping mandrel bent at the shop. it gave my car alot more torque and everyone says its the best sounding prelude in the city.

No cat and no resonator sounds like total crap on a 4 cylinder...don't do it.

You need a cat, resonator, and a good muffler if you want it to sound decent.

Vibrant 2.5" no cat/res into a Vibrant Stealth muffler.....LOUD as could be with a Muffler on there! Nothing I would want for a street car.
Although it DID make only 2whp less than an Open Header!
Sound clips hanging around if you want......

well i dont want it to be obnoxiously loud. the sound as it is now is deeper and a little louder than the stock sound (due to the muffler and intake) but i would like it to be as loud as other street cars. what is the best c-b exhaust i cold get for it?

Get a header with a 2 and 1/4 inch collector. Get a high flow cat with 2 1/4 inch. Then get custom pipes 2 1/4 inch and then your muffler. You should be good. If its to loud for your likin go get a resonator after that.

you said its deep now so leave it alone. you only other option is to cut the cat which will make it noticeably louder

Thanks for the suggestion, three questions though...

how much hp will that give me?
will it still sound deep?
about how much should that all cost?

Thanks!

Each set-up differs in price and power.

Something simple and basic figure like 800 bucks

Megan Headers-200 bucks or less
OBX high flow cat-60 bucks
Custom pipes- 150 bucks or less
Muffler- 200 bucks or less

Thats my set up. Mabey 15 hp on a good day.

Magnaflows are supposed to be deep and not ricy. I still have to assemble my set-up so Im not 100 sure ow it wil sound.
