I got a mixed can from automotivetouchup.com - however, is it too small of a area to use a spray can on?
I was thinking, mask off the rest of the feder car /
Wet sand at 800/1000
Paint
Then clear coat
Then sand again 1000/2000
Compound
Meguiars #42, and then wax?

bump for this dude. i haven't done ANY body work so far but i'd say try it. you can't be off much worse and it'll give you experiance if you need it. as for the question- bump
You could try touch up paint and then sand it down. it will still be noticeable but not NEARLY as bad as that
The correct way would be to blend the are into the rest of the fender In order to do it correctly, you would need to prep the are of the scratch and feather it out, then grey pad the redt of the fender. After you did that you would need to base the repair and blend it into the rest of the fender. Then clear the panel. Goodluck
sneezin is right.
but you could sand out the scratches with 320 or 400 then 600 that area and 800 the rest, spray groundcoat on the scratched area blending out into the fender and then clear the whole fender.
problems are it won't match the door and depending on how far you bring color up the hood won't match either. but you could paint just the fender and buff the door and fender in attempt to make it 'shiny' like the fresh paint to some what match.
good luck

^^ Your right, it probably will look different since the paint is older and most likely dull. You wil;l have to give it a good buff and wax to match it up as best you can.

Thanks guys!
The car is a Berina Black 05 S2k - that spends 95% of its life indoors, so the paint isnt dull.
Snezzin - what is a grey pad? Can anyone link to a DIY for this?

well one good thing you have going for you is that berlina black is solid black. so as far as matching it shouldn't be bad. good luck. keep us posted.

Ok, I'm a idiot.
I wetsanded the scratched section; and then masked the section off. Put down a couple base coats.
The paint matches pretty damn well (except for the fact that it isnt clearcoated) - but its sooo much higher than the rest of the fender, as if its electrical tape on covering a hole!
So at this point, should I
- Mask of section, and carefully wetsand with 800, get that section level with rest of fender and then clear coat that section, and try to get it to blend in? The paint is really damn close!

just sand it all down smooth. tape off the entire fender, not just the scratches, but apply paint to just the scratch area. then clear the entire fender. you made what's called a hardline by taping off just the area for paint.
you need to blend out into the rest of the fender. umm kinda hard to describe in words maybe sneezin can word it better for you.

Sure that makes sense!
But confused about the "tape of the entire fender, not just the scratches" part.

basically tape between the fender and door, fender and hood, and fender and bumper.
ummm.... tape and paper it up so everything is covered except the fender.
i'll see if i can get a picture to show you if you still don't follow me.
sorry, i'm not really good at explaining stuff without showing what i mean with my hands or something.
