Default Can i get away with painting wheels/lip with an airbrush?

So, awhile ago i was thinking about buying a paint gun. Then a roomate is deciding to buy an airbrush compressor. Is it possible for me to do something as large as a front lip with an airbrush. It seems like it would be similar to a spraycan. I've used color matched cans in the past to do my lip. I'm assuming it would be fine on wheels, am i right? Ideally i want to buy a paint setup but if i can get away with this, i can get started on some small things much earlier. My only interest in buying a full paint gun setup is to try to paint an old jag i have in the distant future. Color matched rattle cans have been fine for me, i think this would just be cheaper in the long run. Plus, if it will work, i'll probably get better results using actual automotive paint. Let me know if this is a possiblility.

i was also thinking about using an airbrush to paint my car. i have a fan nozzle, and all i really need is get a bigger container to hold the paint. you would have to thin the paint first i believe. and just be sure to clean out the brush every time u finish using it. you might want to do a search for $50 paint job. those guys use a roller, but I think they use a similar cocktail of paint to mineral spirit for airbrush work. Someone please correct me if i am wrong.

i know there's those brushes with 1 levels and some with 2. i have yet to figure out how to use the 2 levelor ones. i have one, but I only used it to spray scaled models.

Just an update. I finally just bought one since i couldn't find any info. I've messed around on a valve cover and i'm sure you could do wheels with this. You could probably even do a lip if it wasn't metalic (mine is). With something like a lip, i would image you would get a better result with color matched spraypaint.

For small things, i really recommend it though.

I'm just upping this as i got some pm's so this might answer questions.

post some pics when you get done. What air brush did you get? I thought about buying one but I thought they were really expensive. Id like to paint some valve covers with a airbrush instead of using rattle cans.

I don't have any examples because i found some spray paint color to redo my valve cover with (which didn't come out as well as i wanted) so i basically just stripped my work. As for what i have, i got a harbor fright compressor for $50 and a $10 air brush. The compressor works fine, i'm not all that happy with the actual air brush. However, since i use it to spray large areas, it works fine. I just adjusted it to my liking. It's really cheaply made though which makes it hard to clean. For $10 on the airbrush, i can't really complain but it will be upgraded. I plan to redo my VC when it gets warmer so i'll have pics then but i have no complaints on small parts.

I do wish i just bought a lowend paint gun until i realize i don't have the space to use it. So i agree with some comments above. This i can use easily in the space i have, no complaints and it didn't cost much-$60
