Anyone know what I need to do to fix this? Here are the numbers

High Speed
RPM: 2279
HC: 167 - 41 Pass
CO: .94 - .02 Pass
CO2: 13.9
O2: 0.9
Nox: 1240 - 3857 Fail
Dilution: 13.92 Pass

Low Speed
RPM: 1930
HC: 173 - 86 Pass
CO: .97 - .04 Pass
CO2: 13.8
O2: 1.1
Nox: 1372 - 4016 Fail
Dilution: 13.84 Pass

The guy said I needed a new cat converter but I really don't know what would make my nox go down. Anyone have any ideas?

do some seafoam, get some new plugs, and a new catalytic converter

 

good chance its the cat converter then?

 

nox is created by tempretures above 2500 degrees in the cylinders...egr cools down the cylinders.... the egr is the only component that controls nox.

Only problem is that in 92-00 USDM civics, the only ones equipped with an EGR system were the HX or VX's , Otherwise, its on JDM motors such as the JDM D15b as far as i know.

 

i have a jdm d15b and has no egr...

 

well i have a ls/vtec swap. 94 b18b block with gsr head if that clears anything up

I have the JDM D15b as well, the OBD2 version that is 3-stage VTEC, not the OBD1 regular VTEC.

The manifold came with a block-off tray from the company i ordered it from because USDM civics dont use an EGR system, but this motor did. I long since swapped manifolds tho.

 

Does ur car have an egr valve? im saying this because there is no need to spend the money on a cat that doesnt affect nox..nox is only controlled by the egr.

 

i really dont think it does..im not 100% positive though. Would an ECU change the nox? I know my old skunk2 ecu use to run really rich and it would fail me in in HC and CO but not NOX. I was running on 93 octane if that changes much? I really don't know..haven't changed anything since last emissions except my ecu.

Like some people have stated NOX is high combustion temps. Cat WILL NOT fix this and EGR isnt the only thing you can do to drop them.

What is your timing set at? If you retard it, it will lower the temps, also get a few steps colder plugs. Try this and see where this puts you at.

EDIT: Actually those are way way high what did you get last year?

hrmm...i forgot..i also did redo my timing belt. But the timing everything seems fine since I did that about 3 months ago.

yo im not trying to thread steal or bump in, because i have never had an emission test in my life.. but what happens if you fail? do they not let you drive your car?

You get a failed sticker on your window, and a repciept telling you that you have a certain amount of days to get it fixxed and then return. If cops are nearby and see a failed sticker, thats just a reason for them to pull you over and hassle you.

 

Im talking about ignition timing. Something isnt right because thats a big jump you took.

 

Methanol in the gas... That'll cool her down Sucks they're all linked though, if you get NOX to drop, HC's, CO, CO2, could rise..

 

so would a stock ecu change anything or is it somethin more then that?
