Just like the topic said...Reason I ask is cause there are some things I want to do to my car but I'm afraid it'll be considered RICER! I want to put the ITR wing and get the 07 Si wheels and paint the wheels black. I also want the scissor doors but that's it as far as looks. No heavy body kit, no outlandish paint and also no emblems what-so-ever. I have the PasswordJDM CF intake on order and should be here any day now. Here's the link for it. Anyway, I don't want to spend $600 on a CBE from GReddy when I can get it custom made by a muffler shop for cheaper (don't worry, it'll be mandrel bend). Some have told me that would be ricer . I just wanted opinions on this issue. There's a thin line between RICER and Looking Good. How thin is that line?

 

well H-tech will flame you for the lambo doors. Basically anything that isn't JDM you'll get flamed for. But, as long as you like your car and your mods, don't listen to anyone else. It's your money, your car, your enjoyment! Life's to short to live by what other people think.... I say go for it! The doors will draw a lot of attention to you though haha

Everyones opinion of rice is different, like my opinion of rice is anything that doesn't make your car fast that's on your car is (imo) rice but then that is arguable and there are some things that accenuate your OEM look that don't make it fast but is not considered rice. So like i said it's hard to give you an actual "This is rice".

I know what you mean and I hate it (check sig). JDM parts are ungodly expensive because of three little letters. The only parts I would buy JDM would be something I really need to fit perfect (window visors perhaps).

My opinon (get ready to be offended):
1. If it's an exterior part from ebay that gives you any certain "style" at the sacrifice of fitment and quailty it's rice (mirrors, tails, body kits, stickers).
2. If it's any part that will make people think your car is faster than it really is, it's rice.
3. Euro tails are rice.
4. If you don't own an Altezza, altezza tails are rice.
5. Projector headlights are rice.
6. 6000k+ HIDs are rice
7. Almost all body kits are rice.
8. Most lips are rice.
9. Type R badges are rice.
10. Dual exhaust is rice (on FF).
11. 18" wheels with drums in back is rice
12. Home Depot lip is rice and plain garbage.
13. Slammed is rice.
14. Any sticker with the letters "JDM" is rice (except FUKJDM).
15. Hood scoops are rice.
16. Non OEM spoilers are rice.
17. Carbon fiber is rice.
18. Yellow headlights/bulbs are rice

a bit of carbon fiber done right isnt rice IMO.

 

I disagree. CF is a waste of money that could be spend better elsewhere.

I love this list.. everything in it is rice.. except
OEM CF hood that's not rice but when you go with vador CF gay scooped sled lookin hood now that's gay rice.

unfortunately this 2nd rsx-s i bought came like rice so i have to spend extra money converting it back to OEM and get flamed for it because people think i did the **** to the car. Rice is the one thing i hate.. and i drive one . I have these gay sideskirts that have "wings?!?" on them...... GAY!!! the rims were spray painted black... OMFG.. i wanted to find the orinal owner who did that and slap the ever loving **** out of her(yes it was a chic.. prolly explains a lot). They gay shift **** was a big metal ball(which i changed back to OEM but had to replace the whole center boot console area)
I have the loud obnoxious exhaust that sounds like complete *** rice in a tin can and i can not think straight cuz it's ungoddly loud on top of that it sticks out from the back about a foot (it seems).. if they could of made it stick out 5 feet longer that would of been AWESOME (sarcasm)

Hate to break it to ya but we're all riced. Regardless of what people with proper performance mod may think, they're rice also. If you have a Japanese car with any mod to enhance its looks or performance, you're riced. The term was made up by USDM (Ford, Chevy, etc.) racers/enthusiast. Example. Japanese/Asians in general eat lots of rice. You replace the letter A in rAcer with I and call it rIcer. Basically linking the the word rice to asain/Japanese made vehicle.

If thats the case, then link the word rice to domestic cars. What is the logic and reason behind it? What does RICE have to do with racing? or even vehicles? it was first link to Honda's and Acuras (Japanese cars in general) to MAKE FUN of import racers, or as they call it rIcers. Then Japanese car enthusiasts picked it up try to distance themselves from your typical cheezy modded stuff like altezza, racing stickers by calling that rice and not themselves.

Take your car, if its modded all nice and what not, take it to a domestic crowd enthusiast and lets see what they call you. I bet it'll be along the line of ricer not a racer.

Ok so I guess my idea of lambo doors is gone...good point though. I hate altezzas, despise loud and obnoxious mufflers that do nothing to the car (not syaing that real CBE's don't do anything performance wise, just saying that just having a muffler does nothing), Emblems that say Type R when the car clearly isn't, saying that your car is "VTEC Powered" when sohc vtec clearly doesn't count as vtec. I don't understand why pwjdm is considered ricer. From reading these forums, I've noticed that a lot of pple use a lot of "JDM" stuff. I thought that pwjdm was pretty legit. I agree about the eBay stuff but pwjdm? I guess I have to do a lot more research than I already have. I did come up with this though from reading these comments-JDM doesn't mean anything cause it's still considered rice-having other things in your car aside from JDM is rice-making your car look fast but isn't is rice(granted that makes sense)-cars with body kits is rice-HIDs are apparently rice(sucks pple think that cause I think it makes the car look very classy)

I know laying low and being a sleeper is great and all and that's kinda what I was going for. With the doors, I was just thinking it would be something pple wouldn't expect cause the car isn't flashy with the big chrome wheels and outlandish body kit.

A good retro fitted HID setup looks great, especially 4.3k Password JDM has a lot of quality parts but they are overpriced and some people have fitment issues (PWJDM won't do anything about it). JDM has turned into an ebay keyword; it's on every $10 strut bar auction.

And Id bet if a mustang pulls up with a huge wing and some altezza tails with a fugly body kit itd be called rice too. I dont care where it originated and I dont need a history lesson but these days any car can be riced out.
