Default If Mobil One 5w30 is your first choice of oil, what's your second choice?

I'm thinking about changing from Mobil One, because of the 1.5 quarts of oil I need to add between oil changes, but I'm not sure what to switch to. So If Mobil One 5w30 is your first choice of oil, what would be your second choice of oil?

try Castrol syntec synthetic blend , it is semi-synthetic 50-50 blend. Its the best of both worlds, and very affordable too. I would use a 10-30 weight, but 5-30 is okay if you want that specific weight. My engines burn much less oil on that stuff compared to Mobil1, almost nothing. I found a big difference.

in terms of daily driving~ 5w-30 , 10w-30 or 10w-40 will be perfect for u

if u autocross and racing, i think 5w-50 Castrol Syntec will be best for u.

i dont like Mobile 1 coz my engine burns Mobile 1 alot, i just recently lost

one full quart from just one track event. So go for Castrol for life~!

at least i will~!

I did a search and read the longest thread on oils, and I'm still lost. I just want something as good as Mobil One 5w30 without all the missing oil between changes. I understand on daily hard driven Rs 10w30 protects better, but you lose a few hp. Is 5w30 really that bad with 3,000 hard driven miles that 10w30 is needed for longer engine life? Will moving up to 10w30 solve most of my missing oil, because at very high rpm you can see the oil puff out the exhaust.

Castrol GTX 5-30 non syn... working great for me and I switched over from Mobile one. Practice 2k to 2.5k oil changes.... dunno, but for me I see less oil burning with castrol than mobil one. Plus I save a whole lot'a money and it runs great, we'll see.... I like it better.

right on ...snytech snythetic by Castrol....Redline as well
a little on the pricy side...but in my opinion worth it. if you run your car hard a lot or it has close to 100k on it. synthetic oils protect engine longer than regular oil, no matter what brand.

Mobil1 is NOT my first choice. I burn it up.

I use Honda 5w20 and nothing but Honda 5w20.
If there is no 5w20 available, then I use Honda 5w30.

i just worked in my new B18c5 with about 8000m on it
would it be good to switch to Syn oil now ?

some ppl told me i should keep using "reg 5w30 oil till the oil sinks into the engine"??

They all burn. I switched to Vavoline 5W-30 full synthetic on my previous oil change and had just as much consumption as with Mobil 1 5W-30. After talking to many other ITR owners, I've switched to Mobil 1 10W-30 to see if the consumption goes down any <fingers crossed> We'll see.

The trick is deciding if you like to burn money. Our cars especiily when they are driven hard wear out the valve guides and seals prematurly due to high reving. The oil then sinks aroudn the seals into the chamber. When you fire it up you just blow money out the back. Using a heavier oil helps but it wont fix the problem.

With my seals worn I switched to regualr Honda Oil. Because I get 4 quarts for the price of 2 Mobil 1s and Honda does not recommend running a synthetic oil. I think Mike can back me up this, maybe. Ive had 2 dealers tell me this even though they stock sythns for the rich guys who dont listen to reason and use the old, Well Porsches us it answer.

...I still remember the Spoon comments about expensive oils being a waste of money...
This keeps being brought up, but I remember Yoshi posting sometime ago that this was a poor translation and is not what he really said....

Yoshi?

I agree, Once a motor is worn....forget synthic. It's a waste of money.

BUT.... If you run a car in properly(well). It won't use oil. Eg. I used good Dino oil for the first 10,000 Kms (what ever that is in miles.) then changed to Mobil 1 Tri-Syn 0w-40. I'm now up to 45,000 Kms. I get an Oil change every 10,000, Plus all the filters( I can't think why people would put new Oil through an old Oil Filter, at the price). Now it's been 5,000 since my last Oil change and I just checked the level ( I thought it would need abit) But the Level is spot-on. No track days since the oil change, but I'll Rev-it right-up there, least for the first 2 gears...yes by then I'm over or near the speed limit. Still unless I'm at the track ...ringing it's neck. Even then it only needs a mouth full. (a couple of hundreds mls)
Now I've only been to the track with this car 3 times now, So mostlty a Daily driver. But I can't speak highly enought about how a car is treated in it's first year of life.

Just my 2c
