This is exactly what I'm running and basically the only way to get it timed correctly is with a cam gear. With the stock cam gear the timing is always off by like half a tooth or so.

You can also advance or retard the timing by the distributor.

Yes you can, which I did, but it still can't be timed up to factory spec, its always retarded with the dizzy all the way advanced. You might be able to get away with cutting notches on the distributor legs though.

You can TRY to align TDC by oil pump arrow mark to close as possible and cams TDC and have it close to spec.

Hate to bump a thread so old, but I figure it's better than starting a new one.

I'm about to do a mpfi swap on my dx, but I'm also throwing on a d16a6 head at the same time. I got everything I need for the swap, including the si distributor, but which cam gear should I use? I think that's a different question than was asked here because I assume this guy was staying with dpfi.
Thanks in advance for the help.

d16y cam gear if 89-91 A6.
88 A6 is indexed the same as the d15b1/2

What about using the cam gear from the db2 head?
