Default b16a type R bottom end!

what would be the best way to build a b16a type R bottom end ? since the bore and stroke on a b16a and a type R are the same, can itr pistons be installed with no issues? or is a stroker kit the best route? thanx

well in cc's yes but wont this bring up my compression. I'm already running type R valves, springs, retainers and camshafts in my pr3 head, its also p&p too.

The bore and stroke is NOT the same between a B16 and a B18c5

uh neato a b16a type R .....

b16b is a de stroked b18c5, not a de stroked gsr and not a b18c de stroked to a b16a.

My word.

correct my bad... i was reading the chart wrong... the b16a bore x stroke is 81.0x77.4 and the b18c5 is 81.0x87.2.. so since the bore is the same can I install the 96 spec itr pistons which have a compression ratio of 11.1 or I'm I better off buying a stroker kit to bring up my compression and displacement? thanx to everyone... this bottom end has been bug'n me cause I'm so undecided of what to do with it..

okay, now that i have read this....

yes, you can install ITR pistons in your B16 bottom end. it will bump the compression up. your displacement will still be 1.6L though.

The bore is the sam dia. from the factory on all b series motors except the b20. However they are all stroked differently and the blocks do differ. If im not mistaken the deck height is defferent between a b16a and a b18c5. this goes along with having a different stroke. Also crank and rod journal sizes are all the same dia. on the b series cranks from the factory. If you were to take b18c5 crank, rods, and pistons and put them in a b16a the pistons would protrude above the deck more than they would in a b18c5 block. This will probably cause piston to valve clearance issuses. With that being said, im pretty sure you can put b18c5 internals in a gsr block without any issues. Plus you have the main girdle for strength in higher rpms like the type r block.

thanx alot for the helpfull info.. I'm thinking about just swapping out my pr3 pistons for a set of p30 to pick up my compression ratio for now, until I can get my hands on a gsr block... again thanx to everyone for the info

Thats a pretty good upgrade but you should try to get some pct (b16b) pistons instead. I had those in my hatch for 2 years before it got stolen. You will feel a lot more from those than you will the p30 IMO.
