better for boost k20a2 vs. k20z1....draw backs?
whats better for boost?
k20a2 or k20z1
ive also heard that the A2 u can use hondata but u cant use it on the z1 but i might be wrong.
basically i want to build a boosted k but i cant decide on keeping the z1 or buying an a2.
and are there draw backs of either engine on boost, if so i'd like to know
I'm looking for 400-450 whp.
money's a thing but i have time to save.

just stay with the z1 the cams are a little more aggressive but you will be ok i do recomend using the a2 crank pulley if your going to stay with the z1 the smaller z1 crank pulley causes you to loose some boost
i like the a2 better but thats just me i guess its cuz hondata has been having troubles cracking the z1 computer but the z1 is just type R cams really i would go a2 get the z1 cams and do a civic si manifold swap and get the adapter plate from wotm.com or just get the kit for like 300
your forgetting that the z1 has a better valve train imo it has single valve springs instead of dual valve springs and i have a z1 in my 02 type-s and the car is much faster now. over all i just think the z1 is a much more solid and well balanced motor

so why does the OEM IPS combo involve dual valvesprings?
why does the K20AR come stock with dual valvesprings?
single doesn't mean better.
look at the eibach evs valvetrain, the supertech valvetrain, the skunk2 valvetrain and the toda valvetrain for the k series applications.
THEY'RE ALL DUAL VALVESPRINGS.
does that make them better? not necessarilly..it depends on the circumstances. don't make such a general statement without knowing the facts.
the k20z1 has a more aggressive intake cam and a higher final drive which shortens up gears..that's the reason why it's "faster"..atleast in your circumstance.

so what makes dual valve springs better then you just told me that every aftermarket kit uses them you never stated any pros or cons

i used the same reasoning you did but had way more to back it up. you stated single valve springs were better because the k20z1 blocks had single valve springs as opposed to dual....yeah. i'm not gonna repeat myself if you don't get the point that i came with..
but you can always ask the experts for more insight..
that's what i did
because honestly i'm too lazy to try to regurgitate all the information i came up on.
