Hey guys. I recently purchased an 88 crx si, and it runs soo smoothly, shifts great, everything, but there are a couple things getting on my nerves.
The one I am talking about it a squeak that seems to be coming from the hatch. Im sure somebody knows what Im talking about.
When I drive I can imagine the hatch's rubber bushings that sit on the metal body rubbing. I figured they were just dry. So I got a can of garage door opener lubricator, and sprayed those puppys down. No sign of improvement. I folded up some paper a bunch of times and placed them in between the rubber and the metal, but they didnt work either. The sound is still there, and I imagine the paper would dampen the sound if anything.
Its really loud and annoying. Can anyone help out on this?

I used a hatch bar "c-pillar, but honestly everyone names it differently in the rex"...I made it using egay materials, I mated it to the bottom of the hatch shocks and the squeaking stopped.
are those 2 rubber stoppers backed all the way out (turned to the left)
back them out until you remove them, and put them back in with only one 1/4 turn, the first thread on it.
when you go to latch the hatch afterwards it will be harder to close, and be tighter.
this eliminated the noise in my last 2 crx's.
it is not a garunteed thing, sometimes there are more severe issues causing squeaks, like suspension and bushings.
also sometimes with age the rubber contracts permanantley not making things as tight as they did 15 years ago when they were fresh.
due to increased hardness, less give, and decreased size, respectivley.

I'm another one for the latch. Put a rag over where the latch goes into then shut it down. Make sure its a fairly thick rag also. My car has been on the rag for a couple years now and she doesn't make a fuss anymore. Every once in a while you have to move the tampon around because it gets rips in it from the hatch latch fingering it.

I just took the plate out from in between the hinge and the hatch. If you unbolt the hatch latch, there is a 1/8" plate in betweet it and where it mounts to the hatch. If you take this off, the hatch will require a little more effort to close but will have the hatch locked in tighter so you wont have any squeal. Just one of the ways to do it.
