Default need help on smog =T

my first test

running stock LS motor with a an AEM intake. everything else is stock. i did the seafoam, change my oil, plugs (0.44), wire,cap,rotor..time is at 18 degree, s2000 fuel pump, the whole IM has been clean. Gas used for the test 89 oct

second test

the referee said it might be the o2 sensor so i went back home and change them both out with the sohc engine (D16y7) and replace the fuel pump with the stock civic's. after changing these items the car ran different, it seem to pull harder...so i thought everything was fine, but the result showed that it wasnt...however those o2 sensors has once used in a turbo setup..could that have ruin the o2 sensor causing the HC and the CO to shoot up so high compared to the first test?

any idea??please help me out...i am one step away from getting my motor BAR'D...please help!!!

you already did seafoam and a tune-up

how is your catalytic converter? is it old? i tried everything to pass smog on my 90 Si and finally a new cat did the trick.

another thing to remember is to get the catalytic converter as hot as you can before the test. on your way to the inspection, drive the **** out of the car to heat it up real good and try not to let it sit and cool off too long before the test. the hotter the cat is, the better it works.

also perhaps retard the timing to 15 or 16 degrees.

another thing is octane. there are 2 schools of thought on this. theoretically a lower octane would be better because...**** i forget why. I used to think that 100 octane was the way to go, and i did pass with it once, but then i read something on honda-tech that scientifically explained why the lower octane is better....hopefully someone can finish thoughts correctly.

try using that, i have used it twice on my motor, i used it to pass BAR and i used it for state ref when i got caught with something else, even after the motor was boosted and put back to stock, make sure your cat is NICE AND HOT

You guys are pulling out all the stop signs to pass smog.

This is what I would try:

1. Put in new O2 sensor/s (ppl have mix feeling on universals, but i used them since they are cheap and it works)

2. Test the CAT and see if its still works. Use an infrared thermometer for more convenience.
Heat up the cat first before making measurements.
Measure the incoming exhaust gas going into the cat and measure the gases that is existing the cat. (Measure the part closest to the cat that is not covered with heatshield)
Exhaust gas going out should be hotter than the gases that are going into the cat.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by SIC_jdm_da9 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">ur cat is maybe bad and also try to keep your motor cold... how i pass was i wired up my red fan so when they took the test that fan was runnin the whole time. im ruunin exhaust chip ecu at the time....</TD></TR></TABLE>

Not a good idea. Car will probably never reached operating temp to run closed loop mode.

try iso heet, its a fuel water remover, but also helps reduce hydro carbons. Its like $1.50 at the auto parts store. pour like 2-3 bottles in with a 1/8th tank that should do the trick. dont ask them for iso heet to help u pass smog they wont know what your talking about.
