Default Boosted b16a wont rev past 7800rpm??

My friends car is giving us hell. It will not rev past about 7800 rpm. The car is tuned on crome with the rev limiter set at 9000. He had a code for the crank position sensor and from reading I figured this may have been the cause. Well we put in my distributor the light went away and we gave it another go. well the same thing, 7800rpm limiter but now with no check engine lights. Next we tried my computer which is a p30 tuned on crome with a similar set up except my rev limiter is at 9500rpm and works on my car. Again, that damn 7800rpm limited kicks in. So we are lost. Has anyone experienced anything like this before?
.........he just called me and said that his vss check engine light came back on which had been off while we were testing. Don't know if that could have anything to do with it.
PLEASE HELP US!!! haha

I just got this from the Forced induction forum, my friend posted it for me. Any thoughts??

easy fix. plug his VSS in, and it'll rev up to where it should again.

The car is tuned on chrome, no vafc. Its a 1990 crx si with rywire obd1 conversion and a chiped p28 ecu. Im my tranny is a cable driven vss and his is a electrical vss. How do i test my vss other than if the tach and speedo work?? Could it be in the rywire harness?

Thanks keep the post coming!!!

This is my car that is having the problems. The cluster is stock and the vss is pluged in, its just the cable that goes into the vss. I just used my friends ecu with his tune to test to see if my car would rev past 7800 on a known good ecu (his rev limiter is 9500) and it still wouldnt go past 7800 (mines set to 8900). So the question is if there is a code for the vss on my car would that cause a safemode kind of thing to happen at 7800 or is there something that would cause a car not to rev past 7800? It feels like a revlimiter, not breaking up or to wide a gap in the plugs. Hope this clears up any questions!

Thanks

did you check the vss on the tranny? not where it plugs into the back of the cluster.

stock clusters cant be trusted when it comes to rpm readings.

get that thing hooked up to a real tach just in case.
