$300 in emissions parts...
I failed emissions for more than one reason, but since I "do my own work" I pretty much need to drop $300 in BS emissions parts. My ideal is to buy them and then sell them for a loss, but minimize my loss and just get the dam emissions outta the way.
The parts have to "be on the car" and I cannot put a CAT on because my exhaust hooks right up to my header, aka, no room.
What parts or part are $300 I could get and have on the car....I was thinking some spark plugs, plug wires, dizzy...(2) O2 sensors? They going to be considered emissions related?
Either that or I need a MD buddy that has access to receipts or a shop to write me a fake ticket for $500 in parts and labor and I'll repay the favor somehow....

You need a catalytic converter to pass emissions. Those tune up components you listed may help enable your car to run normally. Though $300 isn't enough unless you buy everything used and abused.
Get a CAT and change your exhaust to accept the cat...and later straight/test pipe if you want.

Dude, get a CAT, do whatever needs to be done to install it, end of story. You are not going to get a waiver with the CAT removed, no matter how much you spend.
IMO, road use without a CAT is irresponsible, FIX IT.

I'd agree, but I'm running a test pipe. It was on the car when I bought it, or else I'd have a cat. We also don't have emissions here.

I don't think it's/that's quite the same ... you've got everything else (stock) on it as well!

haha, thanks brad.
Well this is another gem courtesy of our friend tootsie. Is this the first time youve ever been to emissions??
GET A CATALYTIC CONVERTER.
Go down to Dave's shop and have him modify your exhaust and give you an obd2 cat. The parts and labor will run you around $300 and you will be one step closer to having a LEGAL car. You can spend as much money as you want and give them the receipts, but if you dont have a CAT there is no way in hell they will grant you a waiver.
Oh yeah, and another thing...you wont be able to pass without your stock ECU. Maryland doesnt sniff your tailpipe if you are obd2. They hook up the scanner to check and make sure you dont have any codes. If you are running a chipped obd1 ecu or some other aftermarket engine management then you are FUCKED because the obd2 scanner wont be able to communicate with your ecu. Good luck running those ITB's with a stock ecu

Haha, my R "passed" emissions here with a non-stock ECU because when they plugged into my car, their computer "couldn't" communicate, but they thought it was THEIR computer's fault, so they passed me. w00t, I was lucky!

same thing happend with me two years ago....I got lucky I guess.
I'll hit up dave and have him fix the exhaust, just gotta find time to drop it and take it down to him.
As for the ECU, in MD if it cannot communicate after the $300-$500 you get a waiver regardless. I passed when I first bought the car without a CAT....the people, at least where I go, never check for one and probably wouldn't know one if they saw it. But I'll throw one on for now. I'm taking apart the engine in about a month. I actually have a bran spanking new CAT at my house right now. It was on the caR until I got a SMSP header and the exhaust and header were only 4 inches from matching up so I didn't have time to get to Dave and have him cut a section off the exhaust and make room for a CAT.
I am not pro-CAT or anti, but I ran a CAT for years until about 6 months ago. Just haven't had time to get it fixed.

from what i´ve seen on some of your posts, you´re going turbo soon right? assuming u r going to sell the aftermarket n/a parts u dont need such as the complete exhaust, just put it back to stock before going turbo and u´ll pass the emissions.
Here i passed mine boosted for 25 usd lol, gotta love corruption
