D16a6 build
Hey everyone,
Well if you read either of my last two posts you'll know that I have been planning a JDM D15b swap for my 93 DX 4dr, just to get a little extra passing power on the freeway and a little self satisfaction but my eyes have suddenly been skewed when my friend approached me and asked if I wanted his old D16a6, for free. The head is shot but the rest of the motor is in tip top shape. Cool, huh? Anyway, since there isnt a god damn thing to do here at work I decided to price out what it would cost to rebuild the motor and get a new head. In my search I found that I can get the whole shootin match done for under $500 with a rebuilt z6 head. Kinda a mini-me-swap-ish thing. I presonaly would much rather do this than buy a motor from Hmotors that has XX,000 miles on it and costs $200 to ship to my garage. Hmm..
I do have some questions about this "mini-me" build, mostly pretaining to what type of head gasket I need, z6 or a6? and if I can use the fuel rail from the a6 head? Hmm...I wonder? Well, let me know your thoughts guys before I spend any money. Im flippin excited to start!

Even on d16a6's Honda mechanics use z6 or newer gaskets. The paper gaskets are a pain and not as good as a metal one.
The fuel rail will be fine as long as you don't use a d16y8 intake manifold (which it doesn't sound like you are)

ya I would never use the paper one at all. Metal gaskets 4 life!!

at the dealer the z6 costs the same as the a6 but the y8 is like half price

Will do with the head gasket. Are most of the sensors on the old a6 intake the same as the z6's? I also want to know If I can use any obd1 engine harness with the z6/a6 combo? Reason being I have an obd1 LS harness laying in my buddys garage collecting dust. Thanks guys.
