***Widebody ap1 with jdm f20c swap progress pics and help***
guess ill introduce myself as well. im john. bought this car from a friend as it sits with a blow motor for <8k clean title. he went from 5th to 2nd and.. well..

heres pics of my swap so far... the last pic kind of suprised me..

new jdm f20c from hmotorsoneline

as it sits now

interesting find... jdm left usdm right (already switched on to the jdm motor)

so since they were running a block off plate for the vtec oil pressure solenoid, does that mean that vtec never engaged on this motor in japan?
i thought the tac/vss, normal opperating temp and proper oil pressure was needed for vtec to engage. if 1 of the 3 wanst there, it wouldnt work.. least thats how it was with my ef b16.. im assuming this is the same?? (correct me if im wrong) or vtec would be on constantly??
either way, we put the usdm one on the jdm motor as well as the udsm wiring harness (jdm one obviously didnt have the plug for it) going to use the usdm ap1 ecu as well.
whats the best way to swap it back in? we dropped the motor and trans cuz we already had the head off. put the trans on and try to slide it all in? or motor 1st from above then bolt trans in from under?
heres a few normal pics of the car

thats fine. i like it. and im happy with it for spending less then 8k.
lookin more for help motor wise. any imput on the block off plate as to why? or easiest way with swapping the motor back in?

It doesn't make sense to not use the higher power band and put a block off plate. My guess is that it has VTEC killer cams, so no need for VTEC it just has the bigger lobe. Helps make them lighter for racing around a track, although I'm not sure where the last owner would have got them.

same thing i was thinking when i read it...... or they took it off before selling the motor and put the plate there... pull the VC off adn check the cams/rockers

your the 3rd person to say that, but iv never heard of that happening when buying a jdm motor. i know you might get a header or maybe a clutch but i havent heard of this.
this motor actually has a bored at throttle body. its alot thinner compaired to the stock tb off the blown motor..
it came from hmotors online and the told me in advance that it came with a block off plate. im tryign to find out if all jdm motors or like that or if something is done to mine.
the harness wasnt stripped of the wires for it, or taped off..they werent there at all... like it came that way from honda. so we switched over to the usdm harness thats in the car.
the other thing people said is it might be for emissions over there.. the fact the ecu goes pig rich after 8200 or 8300. have no idea.
it did still have a stock clutch though... so vtec killer cams would be an odd mod just to do alone.. im gonna call hmotors tody and ask.
just figured someone on here had to know, i cant be the 1st person on here to swap a jdm f20c. there cant be that much of a difference since the s2000 is assembled in japn, not in the states.
lets say for crazy thoughs..... it does have vtec killer cams.... what would happen if i hooked up the vtec in it??

lets say for crazy thoughs..... it does have vtec killer cams.... what would happen if i hooked up the vtec in it??It still wouldn't work since the "VTEC killer" cams don't have the middle lobe similar to VTEC cams. The "VTEC killer" cams use the high lobe all the time instead of switching back and for the like VTEC cams.</TD></TR></TABLE>

its strange cuz the block off plate looks oem. so i shouldnt have any problems if the vtec solenoid is hooked up or not, cuz it still wouldnt engage if there where vtec killer cams in correct?
its just a more aggresive cam profile without secondary lobes. im not seeing how anything bad can come of this? if im just completely missing something. let me know.
why do you say that?

dude just pull the valve cover and look at the cams. im sure theres a pic somewhere on the forum of stock cams. I have 2 stock cams at home I could snap a pic of.
None of the JDM Hondas have oil pressure sensors on the VTEC solenoid.
It doesn't have crazy cams, it's stock. They all look like that.

just called hmotors. talked to steve i think it was. that was the exact same thing he said. all jdm motors after 96 dont use them.

So what does the VTEC rely on? Is it a VTEC that engages and disengages or is it always on the larger lobe?

Ok I compared an old picture of my B18C to a B18C5 and saw that mine didn't have the oil think coming out of the back of the solenoid, but the USDM does.
The VTEC crossover was the most dramatic thing in that car....

It couldn't be called VTEC if it wasn't Variable.
