Default My '90 Hatch Build Thread. Check it out!!!!!!!

Alright well i skimped out on doing a build thread when i swapped a motor into my crx so i figured it was time. The idea here is to take the sohc zc and swap it into my B16a hatch (I know i am going from a B-series to a sohc zc, but i am doing it for financial reasons and i could really use the extra cash).

A little background i have owned the 1988 CRX Dx since last December and loved the car, that is until i totalled it . Then i found the the 1990 Civic Dx with a B16a and picked it up for $2000. After some thinking i decided that it would be in my best financial interests to swap out the B16a (which i will be selling) to make room for the perfectly good SOHC ZC out of the rex (that i swapped into the rex in april of this year by the way ).

Alright well off with the build and feel free to leave me any comments or ideas you may have Bear in mind this is going to be a long, drawn out process due to financial and time restraints but it will progress along.

I will start off by showing pics of the crx after the wreck.

Here is a pic of the side not affected. Forgive the non matching wheels i have a full set of the rear ones but i got a flat and decided to use the stars up front which had brand new meats on them

And here is the engine: nothing special, just a sohc zc i picked up from hmotorsonline running through a dx tranny with a pm6 ecu and a dc 4-2-1 header.

Now for the DAMAGE. I know it looks bad and luckily i wasnt hurt but the door was damn near wrapped around my leg.

The console is out because i removed the stereo to prevent theft

Now for the swap!!

Here is a pic of the B16A in the hatch

Here is a nice pic of my work space

And now just some pics of the B16A removal

And the removal of the SOHC ZC from the rex.....

And finally some pics of the SOHC ZC going into the hatch.....

And the almost finished product...

That is all i have for now...i will be finishing up the hatch on friday since that is my next day off and will probably post pics then. I will get some more pics of the hatch too...interior, exterior, that sort of thing.

Let me know what you guys think

I plan on maybe doing a jrsc build on it in college because the motor runs really strong and plus it keeps it legal but for now i am only 17 so minimum wage dont do to good for that sort of thing.

way did you choose the SOHC ZC over the b16. Am I missing something here?

I was under the impression that b16>ZC.

yes i am aware that the B16>SOHC ZC but i am doing it because i need the dough and the b16a is worth a hell of a lot more than the sohc zc. I am just a kid making minimum wage so money is always tight but this car will get a better build in college

i think in the long run no matter how much you get for it, you will eventually wish you had it back. You pulled a running b16 to sell it for what like a grand? You can get that probably from parting out your smashed crx and selling the single cam. DOesnt make sense to me but good luck with your project.

you guys are all wrong. With the money he makes from selling the swap, he will have more than enough money to boost the ZC

boosted ZC > B16

I dont see the logic: i can still part out the rex so i will get the same amount for that regardless of whether i kept the B16 or not, ok and then the sohc zc is only worth 400-500 on a good day. Now the B16 is worth around 1200 with motor, tranny, and the PR3 that came with it so can somebody please explain how the B16 would be a good financial option.

Also for right now i dont need the B16, the sohc zc will do just fine (i actually could damn near keep up with my friends B16 '93 integra with my rex). And like PeeWee said with the money i get from the B16 if i wanted to i could easily afford a jrsc and i hate to say it but i think it would pull a B16.

Aside from that thanks for those few encouraging comments

One last thing i forgot to mention the B16 needed motor mounts and axles, where as the sohc zc had brand new motor mounts from when i swapped it into the crx and one new axle with the other one in damn good shape.

Please don't think I'm trying to be a hater, but I'm just saying you are going to spend the extra money you get trying to boost the power on a single cam up to the level you already had with the b16. Dont get me wrong, I have a stock d16 in my hatch but I would rather have a stock b16 with bolt ons than a boosted d series. (and my other car is a boosted b series) Hey whatever floats your boat and good luck with the build!

unfortunately yes, but i must say that b16 did pull pretty hard. Oh well i love my sohc zc, there is just something about single cams.
Anyways yeah it isnt too fun working in the rocks/gravel in my front yard but got to do what you got to do right? Besides it is my parents house and they dont want any stains on the driveway so.....

As for the build....i will be finishing it up tomorrow.....still on the list of things to do is put in the crossmember(i had to nab the one from the crx because they bent the other one to clear the b16 exhaust manifold), put in axles and tighten up the front suspension, fill the tranny with sychromesh(this stuff is amazing), hook up shift linkage and torque rod, tighten up rear and front mounts, fill the radiator up the rest of the way(didnt yet because the motor vibrates pretty bad without the front mount), mount battery box and put on rest of stock intake....other than that i should be good

I will take pics and try to get them uploaded this weekend
