Hifonics Amp Keeps Shutting Off!!!
Well after like 20 min or so of bumping my amp out of no where just shuts off.....to make things worse when i feel my amp every time its basically scorching hott, i figured it was the ground so i made a brand new grounding point sanded down paint and everything, but it still cuts out and is super hott, anybody know what i can do?? the amp is a 600 watt rms bumping a JL sub
What model Hifonics amp? What model JL subwoofer? Single or dual voice coil subwoofer? Final impedence amplifier is seeing? 8,4,2,1 ohm??
What guage wiring( not that I think that is the problem, but could contribute ).
If the amp is one of the newer 2 or multi channel amps, it is most likely not stable below 2 ohms stereo or 4 ohms mono. If it one of the class d mono amps, it is probably stable to 1 ohm .
That is why we need to know what model amp and sub, and how the sub is wired if dual voice coil( parallel vs. series ). This will determine the load your amplifier is seeing.
Also, if it isn't going into protection from low impedence it could be going into protection due to overheating( thermal protection ). Is the amp mounted somewhere where it can get adequate airflow across the heat sink? Is it mounted upside down, under the spare tire cover, with foam shoved around it to keep it from rattling on the floor
???? We need to know these things to figure out the problem.

Answer the questions asked of you or take it to a shop and pay them to diagnose... Your choice.
