Default Time to restore the EF woot

10/24...small update

I bought a plasma cutter. Cut out ALL the rust on the right side. started making inner patch panels from a SAAB door skin. Ran out of batterys and cant find charger for cam.

This is before I cut it with plasma cutter

Here is the door skin i will be using for patches. I have several more i work

I figure I would post this here also, Im sure many of you will respect this.

Well my body work is in the process. I do it for a living so if you have any question just ask. It might come along kind of slow considering I also have a bunch of other side jobs. Dont ask how much the materials cost (im borrowing them from work haha). Im doing this all in my garage. Except for the 1/4's ill probally do them at work. I might be putting a full 1/4's on.
Will also be spraying at work. Everything will be coming off the car to spray (moldings, glass etc.)

So far I bought a brand new oem si bumper, lip ALL new body side moldings and rear bumper.

this pic is from moooonths ago like october

At this point I wont be replacing the entire quarters as it seems it not that bad. But i can still answer any question that you need...

Here is the aftermath after cutting out SOME of the rust. I will be remaking the pinchweld along with innerwheel house and rocker....Other than the previous repair just using filler and screen mesh there doesnt seem to be any more filler on the car which makes me very happy. I wont be putting full 1/4s on anymore now that i know it will be a easy repair.

These are just rough cuts, I just wanted to get a look at the inner panels.

No filler other than covering up rust which is awesome

He is the underside of the rocker/ pinch weld. I obviously will cut out all the rust, fixing the pinchweld will be most difficult, not saying much though

I have to re-do my quarters because I paid a shop to put in those rust repair panels, and he fucked it up, the sideskirt and trim dont fit on the pass side.

I can get full quarters, I have a compressor and rotory cutters, I just dont know how invloved removing and welding in the new panel will be. I think i have to use the new quarter as a template to cut the c-pillar after drilling out the spot welds under the hatch. and what about the wheel wells? I'm gonna be ordering factory wheel wells, but I have NO clue where those spot welds would be. thanks, and looks good

Well depending on which route you go you will have to splice at the
c-pillar, the rocker, and the door jam. That is the easiest way since its easier to hide the seems.

For drilling the spot welds out on the wheel will just find all the little divits after removing tar/undercoating. I dont know exactly where they are off hand but I will gladly take a picture and try and show you.

Im not sure what you mean by a rotory cutter but, I would reccomed using a spot weld drill bit. My favorite bit is a "Wurth zebra bit" will run about 30 bucks a bit.

Also what rust patches did he use? Did the person make them or buy them?

the person bought them, and charged me 700 including them. it was such a rip off. I'm gonna have to deal with them for now, but next summer I will replace them, along with the wheel wells, but I think it would be cheaper just to find a rust free crx and swap the parts over to it. I'll see in the future, doesnt seem to be TOO hard a job if I use the new quarter as a template for the rocker and c pillar.

keep up the good work on your car, i love seeing these cars saved.

I can find a decent consition shell for about 1200 with no rust or body damage, but new quarters/wheel wells are 1K in total, are there any body books that would show crx quarter panel replacement procedures?

I live in akron, ohio. I need to find a rust free shell within maybe a 3 hour drive, my boss has a full size trailor that i can use to pick up a car, but finding a rust free crx in the north is almost impossible. I need to figure something out though, I love crx's
